The BBC has commissioned a new eight-part sci-fi series from Ashes To Ashes producer Kudos.

Outcasts follows a diverse group of people who are living in a small town on a fictional planet that has been colonised by humans. These pioneers are helping build a new community far away from their loved ones and are optimistic about their future, but the planet holds many mysteries which threaten to destroy the fragile peace.

The cast includes Hermione Norris (Spooks), Danny Mays (Ashes To Ashes), Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) and Ashley Walters (Small Island).

The series is currently being filmed in South Africa for transmission in the Autumn on BBC One.

Pretty sure this was mentioned a year or so ago and I assumed it had just died a death of a 1000 budget custs. Pretty damn good cast to boot and a good production company behind it so looking forward to this one.

Good to hear its on track and with an autumn date in mind. No doubt it will be the Survivors replacement this autumn / winter.

I never saw it but from what I do recall doesn’t this sound like Earth 2?

Waters of Mars springs to mind but I'm sure that wasn't the first show to use the whole adventurers isolated on an alien world story, I'm sure it'l be good.

Ive always thought its similar to Earth2, at least from its description.

From the previous descriptions it's always sounded like Earth2, but they've since said that it'll focus more on the characters and their interractions rather than exploration. The title comes from the premise that the story follows one of the last groups of people to move from Earth to the new planet, being somewhat outcasts when they get there.

First time I've heard about or seen a castlist, looks good.

This sounds pretty good but they're crazy to set it in 2040, it should be at least 200 years from now if they want to make us believe we really could have a colony like that!

Oh right didn't know that. I'll be pleased if it's a February launch. Although I was skeptical originally, it does seem that it's going to be a gritty drama with some interesting plotting. Looking forward to it!

This looks awesome! With many US sci-fi shows either being pretty naff or axed entirely (V, Caprica, Stargate:Universe) is it slowly coming down the the Brits to show them who's boss?? We've got this, Doctor Who and, of course, Torchwood: Miracle Day to look forward to this year.

You should see if you can hack your region setting on your DVD player. You can pick up the R1 set fairly cheaply.

I'm half looking forward to this, and half dreading the BBC production elements cropping up that I dislike, like inappropriate loud scores or cliche characters.
