Does anyone know if Sony are going to fix this problem? Perhaps by software upgrade etc

These faint vertical lines are very annoying, especially when watching football as they really show up as the camera pans across the pitch.

I don't understand how such a big flaw can be dismissed

Hello
I too have a Sony KD-32DX50 and also have the vertical lines in digital mode. I also have a Humax DVB but when watching this through the scart there are no vertical lines.
I have had my sony, bought from John Lewis for six months and just after receiving it I had and still have a number of intermittent faults.

They are

PROBLEMS WITH ON/OFF SWITCH NOT CATCHING (FREQUENT)
SIDES OF PICTURE GREEN (ONCEONLY)
RED LED FLASHING ON FRONT OF TV (SERVICE FAULT) (NUMBER OF TIMES)
PICTURE BRIGHT WHITE/BLURRED WITH BLACK LINES WHEN FIRST SWITCHED ON (ONLY HAPPENS IF HUMAX TURNED ON AT SAME TIME)
ROLLING PICTURE WITH BLACK HORIZONTAL LINES (ONCE)
BLACK SCREEN WITH SOUND (NUMBER OF TIMES)
BLACK SCREEN NO SOUND (COUPLE OF TIMES)

I reported it but as it was intermittent it was hard to pinpoint and as they wanted to take the tv away I refused but after reading up on consumer law
I can ask for a new one or refund.

I think this is a common problem with in-built digital tuners but I would also think you should check that your aerial is of a good standard and is set up properly.
Your scarts being Thor are one of the bests around so I dont think there are any problems there.
Why dont you go to the shop you bought it from instead of Sony.
I have a JVC tv with 5 year gaurantee from John Lewis.

At the risk of repetition, this is nothing to do with the digital tuner.

Either there is a fault with the TV or something else associated with it.

Or indeed the problem is not solvable...

Now that I have noticed the horizontal bars they seem to be getting worse especially on dark pictures. And to think i bought a sony as they are supposed to be good.

Next time it will have to be an Alba.

Since the last post has anybody else come across the green bars on their Sony IDTV yet.

I have taken a pic of them below.

Sony said they hadn't come across it. Yeh right.

i don't have a sony tv but i'm curious about the green bars
what other equipment do you have connected to the tv set?
are green bars visible if only the video or dvd is connected?
i use a teleste smartpoint 2 aerial booster uhf/vhf amplifier

(model mss121)

the outdoor aerial feeds into the unit's 'in' socket
i take a lead out from 'tv 1' to my philips idtv and
a lead out from 'tv 2' to my thomson dti 2300 (tutv)
this has two scart sockets, one goes to a video recorder,
the other goes into one of two scart sockets on my idtv
(the other's used by a sony dvd player)
check your scart connections, use high quality scart leads
as a result i have a good signal going into my components
and an equally good signal going straight to my television
would this configuration make a difference to your picture?

Hello
the bars are there even when nothing is connected to it.
I also have a Humax PVR and the picture on that is spot on.
When I got the TV I had a decent wideband aerial but found I had the bars so I put a decent booster on it and it didnt help. So I got a better aerial and that didnt work. I then got a 26db mast head amp. No change and only recenlty I have changed my aerial again but still have the bars.

I have had this problem for nearly a year now and noted post #22 but knowing that John Lewis will take my TV away and leave me with just the stand I decided to put up with it, however I think its getting worse.
I checked my fault diagnosis in the service menu and the tuner has had over 250 fault readings plus others.

I think its now time to get an engineer out and I will show him #22.

The engineer is coming tommorow. He rang me before as JL had contacted him. He asked what I meant by jail bars and when I described them properly he said he knew what I meant and said it needed a new capacitor on the digital tuner board.

I will see what he says tomorow, but it does sound like post #22.

Just hope he can fix all the other probs I am having/had.

Engineer has been out and the vertical banding has now gone, picture is superb, much better than the day I got it,
BTW it was post #22 that fixed it.

Engineer did lose one cap as they are that small. He fixed it here as it was the digital N board that needed an upgrade. The N board just came out pretty easy. Bit bigger than a PC VGA Card.

I had this problem when i viewed DVD's etc on the AV input.

I found the problem to be interference from my SKY box. as soon as i switch the SKY box into Standby the green lines dissapered.

I did find something on cutting pin 19 on the TV end of your Scart input:

I havent tried the scart cutting though as yet!
