The Duets - Who was better
stesta18

Tonight Sophie and Steph sang 'Wash that man right out of my hair' while Lauren and Danielle sang 'Popular' I loved both performances and although poor Soph and Steph ended up looking like something out of the flinstones I have to say they just nailed it! Being so close in the house they would have felt at ease together on stage and I feel it really came across in the performance thus beating Lauren and Danielle to the post as my fav's tonight

My ranking on the duets -
1 - Sophie
2 - Lauren
3 - Steph
4 - Danielle

Whats everyone else's thoughts?

I loved both of them but there was a clear winner!

Can't stop watching 'Popular' - it was so well pieced together and Danielle & Lauren played off one another superbly.

It was the first time I thought Lauren was sincere and believable and really let her hair down.

I'd like to see how Sophie and Steph would have done Popular, as Sophie sung it at her audtion, and from what I heard it (all 5 seconds of it) was good, and John said it was the best vocals they heard.

Danielle and Lauren performed the better duet. But it was a bit of a gimme compared to what Sophie and Steph did, which I think was a harder number to try and generate humour without there actually being any water. Not sure it's even that good a song.
It would be churlish to try and seperate Danielle and Lauren.

I think Danielle and Lauren were good together as it felt like they really were pushing each other to do better.

I preferred Sophie and Steph although I liked Lauren and Danielle which is rare.

I love Steph, but on the duets I thought:

1) Danielle
2) Lauren
3) Sophie
4) Steph

Only because she had a bit of a gruff bit when she first sang her part of the song.
I know she was supposed to be a peeved woman but she went a tad to far in that first bit.

Steph and Sophie had by far the better song, and I like Steph, but their duet just didn't work. I didn't like Danielle and Lauren's song at all, and I'm not keen on Lauren, but they really pulled it off. There was just no comparison between the two duets, in my view.

Just watched Steph and Sophies again, and this time I loved it. It worked really well, with Steph kind of being the angrier one, as in she has been wronged some way and that's why they are singing what they are singing, and Sophie being the sensible one trying to calm her down at the beginning. It always worked with the fact Steph is the better dancer so she's more into it, which fits in with what I said, like shes more in to it as shes angry, if that makes sense .

Go with that on impact. Though I was surprised how Danielle managed to impose herself over Lauren and how close Sophie got when Lauren was very good herself.

Both duets were all brilliant.

South Pacific has never been my favourite musical. I grew up listening to the record,(LP Vinyl) which my parents raved about and played many times. But the songs never really grabbed me. I saw the show too and it was a bit of a dated and daft story imo. "I'm going to Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair" is silly but I dId think that Steph and Sophie performed it really well.
Sophie suprised me a lot. She always seems better at pretending to be someone else but more vunerable when she has to sing as herself. Sophie has always shined in the group songs. I actually think that the very lovely Sophie would make a perfect Dorothy.
Steph showed that she really isn't Dorothy for the first time last night. I think there are so many more suitable punchy roles for Steph. She has always been one of my favourites throughout the competition and I would love to see her on stage. But she suits an older role.

Wicked is a show that I admit is still on my to do list. I loved that song "Popular." Danielle and Lauren were fantastic together. I found myself enjoying both of their performances equally.
Lauren suprised me a lot. She did let her guard of symetrical perfection down and really got down to acting out the song. My eyes were drawn to Lauren because I was so suprised by her.
Danielle, for the first time I saw what others see in her. She was superb and showed that she can do it all. I just don't know if she is the right Dorothy, there is a little blandness there where her personality gets left behind.

In short both performances were great.

The Steph/Sophie duet was a pretty poor choice, though agree with judges, making it funnier would have helped. Steph had the better voice in it, so I'd go with her, but generally it was forgettable.

Danielle/Lauren! My God, what a pairing! They were brilliant (and I had never even heard the song,) but I think since it was more of a test of acting, Danielle shades it for me. She is pretty good at being b*tchy! Esp like her fake smile!

Comparing the duets despite hoping fervently Sophie and Steph would do best my vote would go to Danielle and Lauren. If I were to rank the four it would be:

1. Danielle (outperformed Lauren and voice, for once, sounded as good as Lauren's)
2. Lauren (didn't overact, good solid performance)
3. Steph (bit of a rough start but then acted and danced well)
4. Sophie (adequate performance but didn't grab me)

I thought Danielle was fabulous! Witty, clever, funny, bubbly - totally different side to her, and she was vocally amazing and clear.

Sophie and Steph didn't have as good a performing song imo, but they also didn't attack it the same. Sophie went for it a bit more than Steph - but they were still both good!

Lauren... I know I don't like Lauren's performances, so I don't think I will ever like hers... but her performing with Danielle just seemed to highlight her weaknesses. She seemed insincere, had only one expression, and it was difficult to tell what she was saying/singing most of the time, as she wasn't clear.

I still managed to enjoy it thought as Danielle rocked

Didn't really care that much fot the duets but would give it to Steph and Sophie as I thought Danielle and Lauren ruined a great song, Thought they started really well and then messed it up in the second half of it; having seen Wicked numerous times and listened to the soundtrack over and over againT
they certainly weren't "Popular" with me.
