Can't rotate photos from Vivaz on my PC.
For some reason when I upload photos to my PC from my Vivaz I can't rotate them.
Despite being able to with every other SE phone I've had I get an error message saying "the file might be in use or open in another program, or the file or folder might be read-only." I have checked the permissions for these files and the read-only box is unchecked. I have had a good look through the phone's settings menus and the manual but to no avail. Does anybody know why this is happening and how to resolve it as it is restricting me to only taking vertical photos? Cheers, Mat. |

Once you have uploaded them onto your PC there is nothing you can do on your phone.
Its a PC issue. What software are you using to rotate the photos from portrait to landscape? What operating system do you use? How are you uploading the photos? |

The problem occurs whichever way I try to do it whether it's by right-clicking the file on my desktop (Vista Home Premium) or in Windows Picture Gallery. In Picture Gallery the photo will rotate to view it but will not save it that way when you exit the file.
I have uploaded the files via it's USB lead using the Media Transfer option on the phone and I have also put the memory card directly into my PC. I know that I cannot affect files already on my PC by changing settings on my phone but perhaps doing so somewhere might free up permissions on any subsequently uploaded photos as it does appear to me to be a rights issue. My GF and I use our phones extensively for both photos and videos, uploading them all to one folder on our PC. Between us we have had 7 SE phones and this is the first one we have had this problem on. Her Satio is quite happily allowing us to rotate it's photos so the problem seems to me to lie with the Vivaz.

As I say, there isn't any setting on the phone that will stop you rotating the photo.

Once you have transferred the photos. Disconnect your phone and close ALL windows including windows explorer ones. Wait a moment. Then try accessing the photos using windows live photo gallery or picasa or whatever. It should work.

No, I've looked everywhere on the phone. It's funny how my PC can cope with every other file from every other phone though.
Is it possible the files are restricted by the phone but there is no no way of manually overriding it perhaps? Think I'll bluetooth a photo to the Satio and upload it from that instead to see if there's any difference. Thanks for the help prking. |

Sorry BigM, your post wasn't on when I started writing my last one.
I have just tried all that but it didn't work unfortunately. I even tried moving a photo from the phone completely as opposed to copying it but that made no difference either. When the Satio is available I'll try going via that first. If it still doesn't rotate can I assume the restriction is embedded into the file before it leaves the Vivaz, as I can rotate any photos transferred from the Satio with no problems. |

I always connect my Vivaz as mass storage to bypass all the software stored on the memory card that wants to download onto my pc. I never usually use the software suites, I find it quicker and easier to drag and drop. I just did a test shot to check whether I would have the same problem as you are experiencing and it worked fine. I copied the picture onto my pc then rotated and saved it without any issues. Hope this helps.

Thanks Arenas, it's good to know its's not a generic problem with the Vivaz. Now I just need to find out where the fault does lie.
Perversely, my Vivaz tries to install all the software whilst in mass storage mode, not media transfer which I use to just drag and drop. I can't even install it anyway as I keep getting an error message saying I need to be in Mass Storage mode which I already am. I have now also tried bluetoothing a photo to the Satio and then copying it to the PC but this has had no effect, neither has moving the file totally. Out of interest Arenas, what OS are you using? |

Hi. Sorry, meant to say I'm using Vista Home Premium. When you connect in mass storage it does try to download the suite software stored on the memory card. I always close down the windows that pop up then go to my computer where the phone should appear as another drive. Right click on it and select 'open'. Then open up the camera folder. You can then just drag & drop any files you want to move. I know it seems like a bit of a faff but I find it easier than using the bundled software, I just couldn't get it to work properly, especially with transferring music. I have to say I love my Vivaz, it's so easy to use and the photos it takes are excellent. I upgraded from a Samsung G600 which I hated for the 2 years I had it. Hope all this rambling helps.

Well I have finally found the cause of the problem after messing around with various combinations in the photo settings and it seems to be geotagging which is preventing me rotating the pictures.
Once I disabled geotagging on my phone my PC now allows me full editing rights to my photos. Only had it on incase i should ever need it but haven't yet so it's not really a problem disabling it. Yipee, I can finally take photos in portrait orientation, knowing I can display them properly on my PC. I hope this helps anyone with a similar problem. |
