Turning into a nightmare for ITV. (hate to use those words given that 12 people being killed is a million times more important than a soap opera 'making the air')

Well the story is still dominating the news agenda so probably not a huge surprise.
They'll probably drop it for the rest of the week now. |

To be honest, if I were ITV, I'd air it and get the Wednesday episode (the one with the reported shooting) out of the way ASAP and turn attention to the fire. When is it going to be acceptable to show it? Cumbria had been such a huge, shocking event, will it really be seen as that much more acceptable to show it next Monday?

If they decided it was OK to air it on Friday, might we see:
21:00 - Coronation Street 21:30 - Britain's Got Talent 22:00 - Coronation Street 23:00 - ITV News ? |

What happens to advertiser's money if schedules are moved?

I'd say that the BGT rating for the results show is very poor. Junior Apprentice may have started before it, but you'd think if the 10m viewers who watched the performances cared enough about the acts, they'd tune back in for the results show 30 minutes later and record or catch up with other shows at another time. A 1.5m drop isn't good and the share is pretty poor too. I would have expected at least a 40% share, similar to the performance show (which did rate fine).
Voting is traditionally far lower than on XF and BGT is far lighter and less about the competition itself than X Factor is. Quote:

Thinking about the scheduling, as I said earlier in the post, I've changed my mind and I do think ITV has messed up BGT week this year. For next year, a better schedule would be:
<snip> Quote:
Something interesting on Broadcast, Channel 4 kick off search for The 11 O'Clock Show... why?
Quote:
Lets see if they have some sense and merge the BGT shows tonight. Either put Harry Hill at 7:30pm vs Eastenders and run BGT for the 2 hours from 8-10pm or put HH at 9.30pm with 2 hours of BGT from 7.30pm.
Also if BGT was one 2 hour show straight, they'd probably need another guest act to fill the time. Not sure if they'd be able to find someone to slot in at this late stage. |

ITV should re-edit last nights and tonights Coronation Street down to just the trial and air the seige at a later date. Otherwise, pushing BGT back to 8pm will be the best move.

Given what's happened yesterday, and the fact that Corrie could be off the air tonight as well, I'm not sure its possible to give 'an opinion' on whether the line-up has failed.
Yes, Monday and Tuesday underperformed, but the performance could have improved on Wednesday alongside the results show, same with tonight - i.e. the show gaining viewers towards the end of the week. I think its impossible to say for definite, 'Yes it failed' really given that ITV have had to change their line-up because of this. |

They can't. They couldn't possibly continue showing next week's episodes with an exploded factory and characters talking about and reacting to a siege that was never shown.

I don't really understand Australian ratings, what is the UK equivalent of that? 5-10m? 10-20m?

Bizarre. Re: Corrie. IMO it should stay off air tonight and tomorrow. Catching up wouldn't be too much of a problem, unless they need to be post-watershed. There are several slots in the schedule next week to catch up - Tuesday 8pm, Wed 7.30/8pm and if necessary Mon/Fri 8pm - and it doesn't particularly matter if they have a couple of episodes hanging over until the following weeks as the World Cup actually gives ITV more flexibility rather than less |

I like the first suggestion. Knowing ITV, however, they'll probably stick with what they did last night.
Also if BGT was one 2 hour show straight, they'd probably need another guest act to fill the time. Not sure if they'd be able to find someone to slot in at this late stage. I think JLS are in London just now as well. The problem would be filling the space where the second recap would air (the one that would go out at the start of the second show). I suppose they could just pace themselves a bit on the performances and have a chat with the judges? |

Simon seems to pull Westlife out of a cupboard everytime they're short of an act!

Yeah, I think something like that would be much better. Dunno if ITV would have Corrie an hour long on Monday and Friday as that would open a can of worms but I really like the idea of launching new shows at 10pm with a BGT lead-in. ITV really need some new contempory drama and sitcoms to come through, and launching off BGT would be a great idea.

i'm not sure if they need to be after watershed or not - some people had said it's too violent to go before and some people have said it's just because of BGT - that it could have gone at the normAl times anyway.
I suppose if it does need to be post watershed they can move NAT back for a couple of days next week, after Father and Son? Quote:
Has the 9pm slot enabled you to do anything with the episodes that you couldn't do at 8.30pm? I think if ITV so wish, they should still air the full uncut episodes, even if they choose to wait until next week to do so. However, I can see them editing a lot of the more violent scenes, if they exist, making it suitable for an earlier slot."Yeah, definitely. There are shots in there that couldn't have been shot the way they are any earlier. However, I still think it remains Corrie. There's no swearing and it certainly doesn't suddenly turn into a different animal. That was my main concern at the time - I had to make sure that we kept true to the show, so as to not turn off the loyal viewers." I still think it's better waiting until next week and showing the episodes as close to the original vision as intended, than it would be to start hacking them to pieces now and trying to remove all traces of the gun violence entirely. But an edited "softer" version is likely, as long as they don't go overboard with it. |

Im not shocked by the lower results rating for BGT... if corrie would of been on i would of watched that then bgt, but as it wasnt i watched the apprentice, recorded bgt and watched it at 10! I hope ITV show it tonight, they cant put it off forever! then just have the extra episode at 10 on friday or saturday

How about they fill the Corrie slots with episodes of Emmerdale for the rest of the week, it would give Emmerdale some good promotion, increase viewers and allow itv to clear some slots in the future for the pulled episodes of Corrie. So you'd get something like this:
Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th 7.00pm Emmerdale 7.30pm Britain's Got Talent 9.00pm Emmerdale 9.30pm Britain's Got Talent Monday 7th June 7.00pm Emmerdale 7.30pm Corrie 8.00pm Countrywise 8.30pm Corrie 9.00pm Father and Son Tuesday 8th June 7.00pm Who Wants to be a Millionaire 8.00pm Corrie 9.00pm Father and Son Wednesday 9th June 7.00pm Emmerdale 7.30pm Florida Paridise Lost 8.30pm Corrie 9.00pm Father and Son This would mean by next Wednesday both Emmerdale and Corrie would be back to normal and Corrie wouldn't clash with Eastenders at all. |
