Totally agree, Pizza. Or even air BGT 20:30-22:30 on Monday and Friday to avoid 'Enders.

Have to feel sorry for the Corrie producers and actors - they've clearly spent a lot of time, money and effort getting this week right and its all been taken from them. Hardly seems apt saying that in the circumstances though.

Anyway, from the looks of last night the BGT performance show is still as strong as it has been over the past few days. Its not been hitting quite the same heights this year, for a variety of reasons, but I don't think this latest turn in schedules has much to do with it - bar taking a million or two casual viewers from the results show. I wouldn't have thought that would adversely affect the final.

Junior Apprentice did well last night - seizing the chance at 9pm. A couple of weeks ago, I thought it would be crushed but its held up as well as anything. BBC News at 10 seems to have a real pull on the viewers and without BGT running straight into it - and the cross-promotion of stories (which would hardly be appropriate this week), ITV News, while doing well, is back in second place.

I'm not sure obviously how much - but I'd imagine some bits would have to go if it was on pre-watershed which would ruin the 'flow' of the episodes.


No idea. And that's the dilemma ITV have.

I think that was just PR to get a story in the tabloids. I'm sure all kinds of murders etc have been seen in Emmerdale at 7pm, plus of course EastEnders that has a reputation for having dramatic storylines. People generally get murdered on Christmas Day in that soap!

Maybe edit one or two scenes down a bit, but I'm sure they could still air at 7.30pm.

Ah right, fair enough. If they can somehow edit it appropriately and air it before pre-watershed, I think they should reschedule the episodes like how ZoeMcCallister suggested:

Although there may be some continuity issues, I think it would be best to air the climax of the current storyline on a Monday in that slot where it could get a high rating instead of Tuesday when Corrie isn't usually on air and it wouldn't rate as well.

Any ratings for the 5 O Clock Show on CH4?

Note though that the omnibus and ITV2 repeats have remained pre-watershed, so it's not out of the question. I think though there is a big difference between airing them at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.


They've all been "specials" this year. With ratings this year, I guess that would have been the last ever episode too.

With the amount of "regulatory obligations" that ITV has removed in the last year or so, I don't think this will be a problem. Actually, it will probably suit Ofcom on the whole because it'll mean news programmes will be spread from 5pm-8pm.


I disagree on this point because News at Ten was an institution, whereas the ITV Evening News wasn't. It rates OK, but ITN is better known for its 'News at 5.40' from back in the day.

What I am suggesting is this:-
5:00pm Westcountry News
5:30pm Early Evening News
6:00pm The Paul O'Grady Show



15-16% is about the average at the momnet, down to 14% on occasions - but the BBC has seen a drop too - so I think the appetite for entertainment in this slot could really help.

Also, if ITV were to put a popular chatshow there, it could have bad effects on One Show viewing.

It would give them a good excuse to air more episodes in the preceding week or the week after.

ITV should consider launching another news channel, whether a joint venture with C4/ITN/both, it would certainly help their (lack of) credibility and would go in their favour when they need to move the news for whatever reason.

They should do. It was a sad day when the ITV News channel closed down.

Interesting decision by Five, cant recall them doing a news special in a long time. Seems to be sharing some of the content from Sky's own 7pm special.

ITV's announcers are actively promoting TV Burp as being on at 9pm tonight, so expect ratings to be lower 9-10pm as a result.

I remember, I think, during Euro 2004 when Tim Henman, who would usually have been scheduled to play last by request of the Beeb, played first because they had a live match that evening. When it comes to the knockout rounds, the Beeb will bear Wimbledon in mind, and Murray in particular, when they make their picks. I remember in 1998 ITV had both matches on one day and the Beeb showed Tim Henman who started at teatime and carried on into primetime.

That was also the World Cup when the first half of France vs Denmark couldn't be shown as Tim Henman was on BBC1 and Prime Minister's Questions were on BBC2. Won't happen again, though.

As for the Beeb's scheduling, that always goes to pot during Wimbledon, one of the stupid things about the last Robin Hood was not just that it was on the wrong channel but also at the wrong time, because when they moved Murray over to BBC1, they showed some other match on BBC2 only for it to end after about five minutes, then they shoved on the episode of The Weakest Link that was supposed to be on BBC1 and sent everything nuts. The year before, they moved Murray to BBC1 and The Weakest Link, again, to BBC2 on a Saturday, and when Murray's match finished, rather than show some more tennis until the next junction, just went off air and showed After You've Gone, so there was no tennis on either channel for half an hour.


They haven't all been specials, three of them were specials. And I reckon it'll come back, the ratings aren't that great but the critics are all over it.

I shouldn't worry about it. Based on his form this year, Murray will get knocked out in the first round.

Don't understand why they couldn't have had BGT as a two hour show. I'm sure it couldn't have been that difficult. The results will take another knock tonight as a result.

I agree, but I don't think the knock will be quite so severe as the BBC1 competition is far weaker, and it'll benefit from people tuning back in after Have I Got News For You.

BGT Results is up against a Would I Lie To You repeat. It shouldn't take a knock tonight, that is easy competition.

Fair point actually - didn't realise it wasn't up against a one hour show tonight.

Interesting that both times today when the announcer has said about Harry Hill, nothing at all was said about Corrie.. not even informing viewers that there was a change of schedule! As if HH had been their all the time...

I missed the first half hour of BGT tonight but judging by the recap, I didn't miss much of note! With the EE clash as well as the brilliant weather, I wonder just how low the first half hour could be?

After 3 good shows, tonight was crap. Next year, they need to ban every streetdance act and kiddie dance troupe unless it has an original twist on it. They seemed to try and bury a load of them in tonights show.

I think both parts of the show plus Harry Hill will be down a bit. Possibly a slightly smaller gap between the 2 shows than yesterday, but I doubt we'll see much difference. Probably still a slide between the 2 shows of around 1.5m.

I agree about tonight's show, it was pretty poor, although there were two good enough acts to go through (Janey and Twist and Pulse), so unlike Tuesday there were a couple of standouts. About four or five of the acts were utter crap, though, and that Emile was diabolical. Up there with some of last year's semis in the 'worst ever' league, which is a shame as last night's and Monday's were amongst the best they've had across the four years. I agree about the dance acts, they just shoved a load of them on tonight it seems, and they need less in future.

On the plus side, the two standout acts were very good, and tomorrow's line up is stronger so they should be fine.
