The 5 O'Clock Show might be better being renamed The Doomed O'Clock Show: http://digital-i.com/blog/?p=762

Quote:
“4’s new entertainment show between 5 and 6 fronted by Peter Andre is struggling and with only a little over 600k it finished well behind Neighbours and in last place of the five terrestrial channels in the slot unfortunately.”

Extremely poor figures for it, might be getting as low as Dickinson's chatshow soon!

It's little wonder the 6pm hour is struggling as a result. Also on the same day that Hollyoaks and Location, Location, Location hit record lows. Big Brother can't come soon enough... maybe they should put BBLB in the 5pm slot?

Is it me, or even though BGT's been lower this year, its destroyed some of its opposition harder?

(And please, derek500 do not come in with the HD argument for the 5 O'Clock Show, because no matter what it is a very, very poor rating)

They could do a lot worse than BBLB, that used to get about 0.1-0.2m in its current form but they're overhauling it this year.

Wow thats quote strong for the BGT results, higher than the performances!! Pretty low all around.

But one of the biggest news of the day is the return of 24/7 LF for Big Brother, okay yes you need to pay, £14.99 for the whole series, not bad at all, BUT there is a thing on the site, if you register dead on Tuesday 7pm, then the first 1000 get a free streaming for the whole series, I imagine everyone will be doing that.

Related to the ratings thread, this could possibly increase ratings, interest and media publicity, I've never seen BB forums so packed and positive

I wouldn't see BB and its fanzine shows as any kind of saviour to Channel 4 as these are meeting their maker this year, but a whole creative renewal is needed in the early evening. Hollyoaks has picked up a bit, but the son of POG and the Simpsons on a loop can't help 4's 5-7pm slot, same as overkill with the admittedly good CDWM is going to lead to boredom and falling ratings.

I'm not surprised the 5 O'Clock Show is flopping. The features on the PO'G show were tired as it is, but Paul's banter carried them along.

Now you are just left with Paul's left over features and autocue interviews. After Peter Andre, Natalie Cassidy is the next host.

Oh dear, it's doing about the same as 'Iron Chef' was in that slot . . . and that was pulled two weeks before the end and replaced by repeats of Come Dine With Me, which got almost a million more viewers.

That's if it gets that far.

Yes, we all knew the 5 o'clock Show would pretty much be the Paul O'Grady Show without Paul O'Grady, but they've been far too blatant about it and should certainly not be using the same old faces. I've said before using the same "members of the public" ends up making a show exclusive rather than inclusive - and they'd be plenty of wannabes out there who'd like the opportunity themselves - and more importantly, fresh faces make it fresh for the viewers too.

That said, Peter Andre isn't too bad a host at all and if he ditched all the baggage (well, the ITV2 shows!) he could get a regular show of his own. I think C4's best bet would be to pair him up with a female co-host and launch a new chat format in the 5pm hour - I've long said they need to be doing to daytime chat shows what The Big Breakfast did to breakfast TV nearly 20 years ago.

Peter Andre did a chat show for ITV2, his natural home, and it still flopped! So serve Channel 4 right. Anyone with half a brain could have told them this would happen.

Peter Andre has too much negativity around him so it automatically restricts who will watch. If C4 want a chat show then their best bet is going with a pairing that is known for working and using a basic format that works.

It would be a blatant rip off of what they did before but ripping off This Morning and bringing it back to C4 afternoons with John Leslie & Fern Britton would not be a bad idea.

I doubt its worth going for a Big Breakfast style show, that would be more entertainment lead and skewed towards a younger audience. That sort of thing doesn't really work at 5pm.

Eh?, Isn't that exactly what The POG Show did? Almost entirely thanks to that show the Daytime TV landscape is a massivly diferent scene to what it was 6 years ago pre-Paul O'Grady. The show changed daytime TV bringing much bigger production values and attracting a much wider audiance then the fare that came before it, therefore creating the template every new daytime show now seems to be based on. So sucesful infact, CH4 even nabbed it from ITV!

Wasn't Iron Chef pulled with slightly better figures?

When will C4 realise that they don't need to spend money at 5pm. Come Dine With Me repeats are good for 1m+ every night.

There is a market their though too target though and it would bridge the gap nicely between Deal or No Deal and The Simpsons. It will take some investment to get it right - but if done rightly it should appeal to kids and adults alike.

If it's still George Lamb presenting it then I wouldn't recommend a C4 slot.

Interesting news re. the live feed - at least C4 appear to be giving it the best possible send off. It was a crime getting rid of it in the first place though and made no sense since the house is filmed around the clock anyway so it might as well be available to watch 24/7 online, even if not on telly. Especially if there is money to be made and I believe there is.

It will be interesting to see how the 5OCS performed on Mon, Tues and Wed

Anything similar attempted by ITV hasn't worked at all and it looks like C4 is heading the same way. POG was a one off. Going back to your original comparison, it is very much like finding a replacement for The Big Breakfast.

George Lamb is joined by Emma Willis this year. They've axed the audience and the games and are taking BBLB back to its routes. In fact the first show on Wednesday is being presented from a camera platform outside the house.

ITV1
- Midsomer Murders - Sunday 20th @ 20:00
- Piers Morgan On... - Tuesday 22nd @ 20:00

If they keep shoving CDWM into every slot they can find it won't be bringing in 1m+ forever.

I don't see how that show can sustain itself with C4 ramming it down our throats as both a daytime and primetime show.

If C4 want a long term future out of CDWM then they need to rest it for a few months, not just on C4 but on More4 too. It would probably make them a loss at the minute but at least it wouldn't be going into overkill.

I'm not thinking David Dickenson though - more a T4/TFI Friday/Light Lunch type show - not just the usual chat show mould with younger hosts.

Talking of The Big Breakfast, found out today they were offered the job of hosts in 1997 after guest hosting for a week, but turned it down - with Johnny Vaughan ultimately getting the gig and Ant and Dec moving on to launch SM:TV.

Perhaps they should put the episodes on C4 first and then the catchups on E4?

Desperate Housewives suffers too by this policy.

It's not in HD and as we've seen with Corrie, the SD upscales on ITV1 HD did nowhere near as well as the native HD broadcasts which started this week.

Not that it means anything useful, but Harry Hill is trending 7th worldwide on Twitter. A Britain's Got Talent related trend is 6th worldwide.
