Considering the ratings of other original concepts on ITV1, I think 'brilliantly' isn't too OTT.

Just looking at the demos for Modern Family in Australia I'm very impressed. Nearly 100,000 extra viewers than MasterChef in 16-39 and over twice as many in that demo as Seven's Australia's Got Talent and Home and Away.

This is a classic example of how to utilise your big hitters to successfully launch a new show with TEN sandwiching this perfectly in between ratings bankers MasterChef and NCIS.

ITV could learn so much from their approach!

Sci-fi/supernatural shows can cover quite a broad spectrum. You can have your more family orientated stuff like Doctor Who or Primeval (Saturday night fare) or you go towards True Blood/ Heroes which would sooner find a home at 9pm on Sundays after X Factor.

Stick with Wild At Heart/DOI in the first quarter, then the detective dramas in the second. And for the fourth quarter, something (perhaps a sci-fi show) that's going to attract the young element of the X Factor audience at 9pm on a Sunday night.

Thursdays at 9pm should be a comedy hour. 2 sitcoms, 13 episodes and ensemble casts that have some well known names.

Monday night thrillers worked well there. Keep going with that.

Fridays can be a cheap night. Paul O'Grady perhaps or just show some drama repeats.

Detroit 1-8-7 - I like the look of it alot
My Generation - promising
No Ordinairy Family - by the preview, I like it alot. New sci-fi is always good
Secret Millionaire - the same as the UK version
The Whole Truth - quite good - shouldn't have been given the 10/9c Wed slot though.
Happy Endings looks like it will have an unhappy ending to the trash can
Mr Sunshine - I love Allison Janney, but it looks ok-kinda good at best
Off The Map - I'll watch it because it's a Shonda Rhimes production

Best - Body of Proof/Detroit 1-8-7
Worst - Mr Sunshine/Happy Endings

The Warner Bros films rights are confusing because ITV do have the rights to the likes of Harry Potter, Batman and Oceans but Five have been showing Warner Bros films as well like The Invasion on Thursday and We Are Marshall, I think Bourne Ultimatum or Ocean's Thirteen would be the most likely for that slot.

Transformers I think is BBC but is it a Paramount/Dreamworks film so it could go to either the BBC or Channel 4.

I can't work out what films go where anymore. It's pretty complicated.

I think Wednesday nights are a good bet, Saturday nights are not, though Saturday teatime isn't so bad.

Sunday's have always been good too...

Yeh Warner Bros seems to be a bit of a mixture really but ITV do seem to get the big ticket items.

Paramount is generally BBC I think, although C4 did get Stardust recently. The beeb will defo want 1st dibs on Transformers though. I'm thinking Transformers is likely to go out later this year on BBC1 Boxing day primetime with an Eastenders lead-in, with Shrek 3 (another 2007 Paramount/Dreamworks) on Christmas day, late afternoon.

Really like all these points - it all makes sense...

Your Sunday idea especially has lots of variety, by having Wild at Heart/DOI in one quarter, then detective shows in another, and The X Factor and a sci-fi show.

Also agree with transforming Thursday's: moving Harry Hill, You've Been Framed and Benidorm to there would be a start...

As for your Paul O'Grady plan, I think ITV should create a new chatshow slot 8pm-9pm on Tuesday evenings as an alternative to Holby. It hasn't been tried yet, so maybe it could work? As long as it's cheap, the risk is minimal...

This leaves Friday for drama repeats all year round.

IIRC Dreamworks films tend to go to the BBC as they have had an output deal since the studio's been operating, the animated films come from this deal as do live action although it depends on who distributed it in the UK as Dreamgirls was shown on Channel 4.

I would say Shrek the Third and Cars will be Christmas Day films although which one gets the 3.10pm slot is hard to say at the moment.

Warner Bros are a bit weird with rights, the 2006 films like Superman Returns were on the BBC but other films like Batman Begins, Happy Feet, Corpse Bride and Harry Potter were on ITV1. I wouldn't be surprised if ITV1 got a package with Harry Potter, Batman etc and Five got another with films not included in the ITV deal.

Completely agree, it's as if there aren't any other TV shows on air. :yawn:
