If she was staying at the BBC surely she just wouldn't release a statement. Although on the other hand, would she do the same thing if it was ITV? Intresting!”

TBH that sounds like Avalon trying to get back a negoating postition, after the story of signing with the BBC, for alot less with the ITV romours.

Just a note, provisional (and finalised) schedules for week beginning June 26th will be largely useless as it depends on how England progress and other eventualities.

Hence why provisional schedules may show bizarre things such as: http://uk-tv-guide.com/programme-det...ds+Today/News/

true enough, Digiguide has "Life of Riley" Monday @ 8pm, that could turn into EE.

No ITV on Digiguide today

Better though than the BBC shelling out for a purpose built studio in a city away from the main atmosphere of the event - seemingly not realising however much they paid for a view of some mountain, if it's dark, we can't see it!

That was rather dumb - ITV should have played the BBC at their own game really and scheduled a highlights programme to follow any afternoon matches of the games so far today, which might steal a few viewers from the BBC2 10pm show which will steal viewers from ITV's 10.35pm highlights.

Do we all come into this with our minds already made up then? I've always been a fan of ITV's World Cup/Euros coverage and found it much more watchable than the BBC - so was naturally impressed with what I saw today - which looks a million times better than what they used four years ago.

To be fair what I saw of the first half hour of BBC's coverage was more bearable than usual - but that studio has an awful backdrop. The studio itself though is pretty much identical in the layout to ITV's in Jo'burg - so the BBC's justification in setting up in Cape Town is even more questionable than I first thought. Graphics are a nice evolution of the BBC Sport package, but really after around seven years it is about time BBC Sport got a complete new look.

Not to be flippant. Adrian had good reasons for leaving - he was treated quite badly over the whole Chris Evans thing. The same can't be said for Christine, though, who seems to be very happy where she is and is destined for a bright future at the broadcaster if she stays put.”

ITV will drop her faster than you can say Adrian Chiles if the new GMTV isn't a hit and there aren't many vehicles for her at ITV either. She needs to think long term, not think "oh heres £6m for my bank now" which is no good if you have no employment 5 years down the line! Christine should stay put at the BBC.

Yeah well 4 years is quite a long time - till 2014!

Plus if GMTV/Daybreak isn't a hit, it wouldn't be becuase of Christine really and there'd hardly get red of her - there'd change the format of the show back to like GMTV.

The likes of Kate Garraway, Penny Smith etc have been at GMTV for 10/15 years so ITV wouldn't get red of her!

And there are lots of new shows lauching all the time and lot's that she could repace i.e X Factor type shows. The One show does fairly well, but it's hardly a "hit!"

Also, however long she stays at the BBC she's always going to get less money!

I expect that because The One Show's off till after the world cup, we will hear if she does defect or not , in the next couple of weeks.

Kate & Penny were at GMTV when it was ahead of the BBC.

But it wouldn't give them confidence that she is a big enough name to attract big audiences, so they'll be less inclined to use her. I don't think she'll suit the big entertainment shows and ITV have a proven track record of using one female presenter on everything then ditching them when someone else comes along. They're getting bored of Holly Willoughby now and Caroline Flack is slowly taking her place.

To steer GMTV into a different direction, Georgie Thompson would be the perfect recruit and at a fraction of the cost. I'd rather they put £6m into programming over 4 years than on an easily replaceable identikit presenter.

Ok the BBC aren't next to the stadium, that the final or opening ceremony is in, but they are near one of the main stadiums and have a beautiful background that shows off the beauty of South Africa. The studio has been designed to be used at other events, so it should be used again in the future. Also ITV didn't seem like they were in the atmosphere of the event either, the only time i actually felt like they were near it was when some jets flew over them. And you do know that probably about half the matches are going to be played in daylight?

Very true.Davina Mccall, Cat Deely,Kate Thornton and Fearne Cotton are just a few in recent year's that were the female face's of ITV.

The BBC tried to defend the money spent on the studio by saying it'll be reused at other events - but in reality these other events already have their own broadcasting arrangements and the BBC have no need to bring in a glass studio for them, so it'll be wasting money just to try and prove they're saving money.

Yeah but what i'm saying is that they don't just get red of presnters on shows like GMTV.

Christine IMO is good at big entertaiment shows - surely when she's been on Comic Relief as one of the main presenters.

Also I'd hardly say that that there getting bored of Holly. She's on Dancing on Ice, Celevrity Juice, This Morning.
IIRC it's her decision - she's only giving up the X factor because she's a new mum and would have to either works 7 days a week or take half the week of This Morning!

I dont think she will move either-not yet anyway. The point is that she is hardly going to lose any standing by signing a two year contract and I dont think her career at the One Show is yet at a natural end. Its interesting that she says she is "torn", presumably because she feels loyalty to the people at BBC who have helped her. I think thats quite refreshing.

The whole saga of will she wont she reminds me of why I never buy tabloid newspapers, so much rubbish to be sensational. As far as I could tell The Sun had roughly eight lines of reporting in Mondays edition about the French Open Tennis Final-to me thats scandalous. There were about 30 pages devoted to a football competition that hadnt started.

Re Junior Apprentice.I reckon those who didnt tune in because it was "kids" truly missed out. It was as compelling as the adult version, and overall a lesson in how to produce a talent/reality show-as it always has been. Very respectable figures on Thursday and deserved it.

I must be one of the few who thinks ITV's World Cup coverage has been quite good so far. Their titles are better than the BBC's for the first time in ages, great banter between Chiles and the pundits, Jim Beglin's one of the best co-commentators on the box and the VTs and reports were excellent. I couldn't find any faults apart from maybe the scoreboard being a bit unusual and Peter Drury's first goal call. If the first match is anything to go by, it's definitely an improvement from four years ago.

The BBC's studio is fantastic with a stunning backdrop (when you can see it!) and Hansen's a better main pundit than Townsend. But Adebayor is a poor pundit, completely useless. The actual match coverage has been great - graphics looking better than ever, and I disagree with Brekkie in that there's no need for a completely new look. But they did have a couple of technical cock-ups during half-time - if that'd happened on ITV, we wouldn't stop hearing about it!

Hmmm...

OfficialBB: Don't forget... 10pm, Channel 4! This episode will really give you a lift! #BB11 - 6 minutes ago via HootSuite

If they don't know what time the highlight's show is on, then what hope do the rest of us have? For the record, its on now on Channel 4 and at 10pm on Channel 4 +1.

Nobody told the BBC about austerity Britain obviously. They seem to be still living the life of merchant bankers.

I didnt see ITV today but the BBC commentary team tonight were poor. The pundits were a bit wooden too. the studio looks OTT and inappropriate given the financial circumstances of the country.

So ITV must have been really poor to beat that!

Sound problems were the main cause i think and the thing that tells you the score/time ect kept moving off the screen at times so couldn't see it

IMO, broadcasters should be able to spend as much money and use as many resources as possible to produce the best shows no matter what genre of programming it is.

Why should TV have to suffer from 'austerity Britain', we need TV to entertain us all through these apparently tough times, we can't be begrudged that surely.

Yeah i dont want to go OT but its the whole Table Mountain view thing. Its not even close to most of the games. Its just like tourists having to have their photo taken at the landmark. It ads nothing to the enjoyment or entertainment but its a bit like a guy in his 40's buying a Porsche.

Oh, I see what you mean. They spent too much time focusing on a location for the backdrop of the studio. I agree with you on that.

I have a feeling it will be annouced soon. Before the World Cup ends at least

Well they announced Chris Evan's becoming the Friday host whilst Adrian was on holiday.

And GMTV/Daybreak relaunches in September so it'll have to be soon!

The BBC are damned if they do or damned if the dont. If they spend a lot of money on a studio then they are criticised for overspending if they dont spend a lot they're shot down for it being poor.

I think both channel's coverage has been fine. The only problem I have is with the BBC paying Adebayor to be a pundit because im struggling to understand him and he's on £130,000 a week anyway.
