Tonight is probably the highest rating current affairs show on TV, opposite EastEnders or not, so it doesn't do that bad, despite what the TV snobs may think.
All this demographics stuff about the soaps is just nonsense and all based around how advertisers think people fit into nice pots where everyone is the same.
Hollyoaks has a young audience, which is good on paper, but if half of them are students, they won't have much money to spend.
Coronation Street may have lots of people in their 50s watching which is apparantly bad, but people this age will possibly have paid off their mortage, kids flown the nest and hence more money to spend.
EE may have younger viewers, but based on the quality of some discussions in the soaps forum, their income consists of the wage from a paper round, which isn't good for advertisers either.
There should be a seperate soap demographics thread!
