Myleene Klass is mentioned as her replacement in today's News of the World - which completely fails to mention Christine actually replaced her.

I still think though Jason Manford is very much the wrong choice (excellent comic though - how did that rate last night?) - he may have some "chemistry" with Christine but if they end up launching with two new presenters he's not the safe pair of hands they require.”

Well i can't see how anyone wants to watch Breakfast tv anyway but thats another matter.
Myleene Klass isn't as bad but can't say shes good either
i really don't see the fuss of Christine either and if it wasn't for the One show she wouldn't even be known

Well I thought Chiles was good on MOTD2 because it was an alternative style to the more traditional MOTD -whether that style is ok for the perhaps more formal big game scenario remains to be seen. Not that it matters though when England play in the World Cup though as ratings are guaranteed.

Jason's very good but I don't see him as a presenter but I wonder if the BBC see him as another Michael McIntyre. His TV resume is mostly comedy shows.

The One Show ain't going to be axed as I imagine it's cheaper than what they used to offer before at 7pm and has proven itself as an alternative to soaps.

No I think you being selective,The vast vast majority has been negative particularly his prerecorded inserts. Which are fine on a football highlights/ magazine show like MOTD2but on not on England live world cup games. ''America stick to your own sports was particularly awful'' Lets not even start on his jokes that fall flat on the foreign pundits.

really good article in the Telegraph about her axe.

Quote:
“Senior BBC figures were dismayed to see Bleakley issue a statement last week saying that she was “torn” between the two broadcasters.

"On one hand I am really keen to work again with Adrian. We have a brilliant relationship on and off screen,” said Bleakley. “On the other hand the BBC is incredibly good to me and I'm very close to everyone on The One Show, which I love presenting.”

One BBC insider said that the corporation did not want to conduct negotiations in such a public fashion, adding: “Christine lost a lot of her girl-next-door appeal by handling things in this way.”

BBC director of vision Jana Bennett, creative director Alan Yentob and BBC One controller Jay Hunt were involved in yesterday’s decision to terminate negotiations with Bleakley”

It also naughtily reveals her real age

Statement regarding ITV deal via Dan Wooton's Twitter:

Quote:
“Christine said: "I am looking forward to a brand new experience at ITV albeit with an old friend. I have had the most wonderful three years at the BBC and The One Show. It is with regret that this experience is coming to an end.

"I have been torn between working with Adrian Chiles and remaining at the BBC. I fully understand the BBC had to move more swiftly than I could, and as a result they've managed to help make my mind up for me."”

This thread seems to have been one long argument today.

Whenever anyone says anything either positive or even neutral about ITV, some feel the need to argue at length why they are the worst channel ever. I bet people who work for the companies are not this protective.

And I haven't even mentioned what happens when the subject of EastEnders crops up.

I find it funny that ITV are bad for poaching other channels presenters, but when their presenters are poached this is perfectly alright. Last time I looked nobody was being forced to move channels.

Going from 7:00pm slot to breakfast tv is a massive jump
i expect this to fail and see her on loose women or somethiing in the future(Or back at the BBC)

the BBC have made Christine look really bad, by yanking this offer out from under her, "help" is not really the right word, the BBC made there mind up for her, the only chance she had was to go back to the BBC and beg for a much lower offer, and the ITV deal is not that bad, that she needs to do that.

Looks like it's going to be the Christine and Adrian show at breakfast. Actually that might tempt a few One Show fans over to GMTV.

This must make it official .......

http://www.gm.tv/presenters/50504-ch...oins-gmtv.html

She will co-host the new-look breakfast show with Adrian from the autumn and will also present prime-time ITV entertainment shows.

Christine said:

"I am looking forward to a brand new experience at ITV albeit with an old friend. And it will be exciting to work alongside Peter Fincham again who kindly gave me a break on The One Show in the first place.

"I have had the most wonderful three years at the BBC and The One Show. It has consumed my life in that time and I would not have had it any other way; I have made great friends and met some incredible people.

"It is with regret that this experience is coming to an end. I have been torn between working with Adrian Chiles and remaining at the BBC. I fully understand the BBC had to move more swiftly than I could, and as a result they've managed to help make my mind up for me.

"The BBC, and specifically Jay Hunt and her team, have been nothing but supportive, fair and encouraging since I stepped foot inside there. I will be eternally grateful for everything they have done for me."

ITV had 2 realistic options to save their breakfast show.

1) Bring Eamonn Holmes back to GMTV
2) Axe GMTV and launch a new show with a ready made pairing

They have rumoured to do option 1, but went for option 2 and there was a lot of publicity in the process.

Whether you agree or disagree that Adrian & Christine are a good presenter pairing and suitable for GMTV, they are popular with audiences so GMTV should be in safe hands.

I imagine GMTV will keep Helen Fospero as the newsreader/Christine's stand in. She was originally planned to be the female lead. However I'd like to see them follow the regular daily TV pattern with Adrian & Christine Monday-Thursday and a different pairing on a Friday, which would then enable them both to do more weekend projects.

That inevitably puts Kate & Emma out of a job, but Emma is meant to be moving to ITN and I'm sure Kate will be added to the Loose Women presenters. It could even be an idea to give the Lorraine slot to Kate on a Friday, she is meant to be popular amongst GMTV viewers.

Which poached ITV presenters are you thinking of?

I can't think of any recent examples.

Do you people not realise that The One Show viewers are all Ian Hislop types who've had the ITV button removed from their television set by Harrods?

They only watch it cos they're too snooty to watch Emmerdale or digital television (BBC4 excluded - and they only show World News at 7 o'clock.)

So do ITV have some kind of war chest to entice all of the talent in, or is this money syphoned away from drama ?

It must be looking very empty in the BBC light entertainment department, Graham Norton, Brucie, Nick Knowles & Dale.

Steve made a good point earlier about channels poaching talent, Channel 4 despite pleading poverty and moaning about other channels not being creative have poached talent from other channels mostly from BBC Two and Five. Sometimes it works like Jamie Oliver and Heston but other times it falls flat.

I wonder what primetime shows they'll have lined up for her ?

Perhaps Konnie Huq is just there for the XF auditions, and Christine will take her place for the live shows ?

I reckon they'll give her 'The Biggest Loser'

It could also be worth replacing Holly Willoughby on Dancing on Ice and put Holly back on X Factor but on the main show

ITV have to have the money as their lifeblood is entertainment. It must be remembered, despite all that is made of stars salaries that they make up only a tiny fraction of both ITV and especially the BBC's huge income. So as an item, it shouldnt be a big issue, but for the BBC its become a stick for people with vested interests to beat them with

The talent drain with regards to entertainment on the BBC is quite alarming, its only the people ITV dont want that get to remain-though if Nick Knowles keeps on beating Ant and Dec no doubt he will be on the wanted list soon.
And with reports that Jonathan Ross is seemingly to sign a 2 million contract with ITV to do the same show thats just about to end on BBC1, it rather makes me wonder where they go next.

edit: I was getting Alan Yentob mixed up with John Birt
