Soap Awards might actually benefit from the extra weeks delay as by now everyone has forgotten who won what anyway.
OK, battle gear on:

What absolute rubbish - the BBC have had a stripped drama virtually every other month over the last year. Actually, that post is so pathetic it doesn't warrant further comment.

Also incase you hadnt noticed the BBC is not shutting down its other programs in favour of becoming a 24/7 World Cup channel, the BBC has to provide for all, not just sport fans, even more so when there is a game on ITV 1, which is most likely when the episodes will be aired.”
The point is though by not axing the displaced episodes of the soaps throughout the world cup BBC1 and ITV1 basically become a football + soap channel, while if remembered that they have a commitment to the event every 4 years and cut the soap quota accordingly the BBC especially would be catering to a wider audience.
They'd better not ruin London 2012 by forcing people to switch channels just so they can show EastEnders.

Events like the World Cup and European Championships, plus Olympic games are constants too though - the BBC are fully aware they'll be showing them when they are planning for the year ahead - so hence why the commission should be cut by what amounts to a handful of episodes to reflect that.
It's not just for the big events too - with Holby and Casualty they know that every year they'll be a handful of occassions when they can't air them in their slots - yet rather than save a bit of cash and cut the series order they'll commission them and air them anywhere they can.
Unfortunately broadcasters in this country are too scared of their viewers and allow soap fans in particular to believe they have a right to "their" shows being aired, with many of those fans giving no courtesy to sport fans who are just as entitled to have their big events shown - and in comparison over the four year cycle such events take up much less airtime than the big soaps.
