I take you point about events needing to be considered when commissioning, though I don't see that the number of episodes needs to be cut. Save the 'cut' number of episodes for other times of the year when a big story warrants an extra episode - could be useful on a quiet Thursday evening to have an hour of Eastenders. Or on a Bank Holiday instead of extra Countryfile and a Inspector George Gently repeat. The time could be quite easily made up over the course of the year, keeping Eastenders fans happy

The regional news means there will have to be a break in BBC1 coverage for at least 15 minutes early evening - that can't be moved to BBC2 or axed

If there is a quiet half hour in the coverage, show Eastenders. If not just show extra before/after the Olympics. Stick say a new run of e20 on BBC3 to Eastenders fans happy during the two weeks

Surely they will. For those not wanting to stay up there is the BBC News Channel at 10pm

Talking of Olympics scheduling what happenned during the Athens games. I know Athens is 2? hours ahead of the UK but it must have impacted the early evening?

They've got a four part drama called Father and Son due to air soon, which I assume is the drama dubsj is referring to. Interesting scheduling if it does happen, as it'll be a week of stripped entertainment followed by a week of stripped drama and then the World Cup, so plenty of 'event TV'.

Very low for Junior Apprentice. I can only presume that the "Junior" bit about it has put a lot off but its just as entertaining as the original.

That won't be ready until the Autumn.

Thanks to dubsj for last night's numbers, and Junior Apprentice just isn't taking off ratings wise, and it's clearly the Junior bit that is putting people off, which is unfortunate as it's just as good as the original. Holby City meanwhile did no better than Waterloo Road does in that slot, showing how much it relies on the lack competition from ITV and the cushy EastEnders lead in on Tuesdays. Solid for The Soap Awards, up on last year and about 0.5m higher than I expected. I still don't see the point of them though.

Dubsj, do you have ratings for The Justin Lee Collins Eurovision programme on C5? .. I doubt it will get reported anywhere else. Be great if you do .

BSAs rated well - better than last year - though the competition was easier last night. I completely misjudged the Junior Apprentice - I thought last week's rating was low due to the footy and MM and expected yesterday's show to rate around 5m. Very disappointing figures, really. Desperate Housewives has sunk to some low levels this series, such as last night!

Broadcast is reporting different ratings for The Soap Awards and Junior Apprentice, claiming they got 6.28m (25.2%) and 4.54m (16.81%) respectively, and that The Soap Awards peaked with 7.27m (28.63%) at 9pm, so who is correct? All the other ratings are the same.

The BBC will have a say in event timings for those Olympics. There will be virtually wall-to-wall Olympics on BBC One, but they will make way for EastEnders and the News, albeit with the occasional changes from normal timings.

If true, then that's very good for Junior Apprentice.

Yeah, it costs about £100K per episode, and the budget has been cut year-on-year for the last two years.

I guess Wednesday will be a walk over - it may have been worth BBC1 moving the extra half hour of EastEnders there to try and bulk up the night.”

Having seen a provisional BBC One Wales schedule for that week, I can confirm the original BBC One network plan was to show five episodes of EastEnders that week, with one going on Wednesday at 7.30pm, avoiding Talent, but that plan was changed when Talent was given the Wednesday 7.30pm slot on ITV1.

BBC Wales had made plans to record their regional consumer programme, which plays on Wednesdays at 7.30pm, earlier than usual, so it could go in a Monday slot, enabling Welsh viewers to see the Wednesday episode of EastEnders at the same time as everyone else.

I don't think it is. Sugar is turning into a parody of himself so much so it's becoming unreal.

The contestants are completely unlikeable and unlike the adult counterparts there's no joy in saying that.

The format is a bit stale when compared to Trump's version, I'd consider moving Sir Alan on.

I think that rating Broadcast report for Junior Apprentice must be wrong because 4.54m (16.81%) would mean 27m people were watching TV in the 9pm hour which is way higher than normal. The 3.9m (16.8%) that RZT reports for it would mean 23m were watching in the 9pm hour, which is much more plausible.

Can't work it out like that for the soap awards though as its over a 2.5hr period.

I wouldn't have thought that clashes will be required - the group stage is simple enough, though the knockout stages could be problematic. ITV1 just need to use the slots where BBC1 is airing football and vice versa, it shouldn't be that difficult I would've thought.”

I don't think the soaps will go upagainst and England match.
Im sure someone said on here in the past that the BBC didn't show EastEnders when an England match was on ITV1

The soap awards rating is - probably from 19:30 to 21:55 or 19:35 to 21:55. Broadcast's figure for Junior Apprentice seems wrong, I believe that the 3.9m sounds more correct, and if that is the case, its an extremely disappointing rating. Unfortunately, it'll probably stay at 3.9m next week then get fed to Britain's Got Talent in 2 weeks time...

Soap awards did well though.

BBC Press Office has updated, and unfortunately on June 5th, Doctor Who is provisionally down for 18:50 to 19:40, which means it clashes with Britain's Got Talent - or based on the past 2 years, it will. High Street Dreams currently has 'date and time to be confirmed'.

Rather suspiciously, there is no information at all about EastEnders...

Maybe Broadcast has added on the HD figures incorrectly, taking 0.071m as 0.71m.

Trouble is they won't be - you try pointing out to them that the three or four episodes dropped for the World Cup were more than compensated for with the extra episodes over Christmas and extended specials here and there. Really you'd probably have more luck negotiating with the Taliban than with some soap fans!

It's going to get killed up against Corrie/BGT then. I can't understand why the BBC didn't use this has a stop gap series around January, well ahead of the election campaign, and then put the main series out over the summer.

I doubt they'll have a huge amount of say to the point where LOCOG will make it easy for them to dip out for half an hour to show EastEnders - but I suspect if the reasonable compromise of scheduling any episodes of EastEnders at 7pm immediately after the regional news was made they'd ensure the key events didn't begin before 7.30pm.

With the summer Olympics especially though there really is no downtime, but all broadcasters obviously have to find lulls in the days schedule to provide at least the news, and I'd imagine either BBC1 or BBC2 will probably have an early evening round up of the daytime action too.
