Big numbers for the Underbelly finale, logging its highest rating since 18th April. The series peaked with the premiere on 11th April opening to 2.25m.

Overall Nine had a very good night with their news bulletin beating the Seven equivalent for the first time in weeks and RBT doing decently. 60 Minutes was the only weak link.

Elsewhere, MasterChef suffered a bit of a knock, with increased competition from Dancing with the Stars having an impact. Little Dorrit did well for the ABC. The football did extremely well for SBS with the Eng/Ger game proving to be a big draw in the early hours.

Who says the Americans don't care about "soccer"? The World Cup has been broadcast on ABC and ESPN with Spanish language coverage on Univision.

The match was most popular in San Diego, California despite it's local broadcast time of 11.30am.

Pretty good for the football on Saturday. Shame about Doctor Who - it deserves more but, as always, should timeshift decently. BBC1's schedule seemed to collapse a bit after then, but I still think they did the right thing by not switching Wimbledon from BBC2.

I would like to congratulate BBC1 for airing the funniest comedy of the year today, but it's such a pity it was aired in daytime. For anyone wondering what I'm talking about, iplayer has the episode on repeat: England v Germany.

Afte having a quick look at the programming over the last week it's likely that Fake Britain @ 3.9m will get into the top 10 programmes of the week!!

ITV will have less than 15 programmes above 3m, because there has only been one episode of Corrie and football matches have dominated 4 days with stuff like Taggart & Piers (below 3m) filling the other slots.

ITV should have really rested Corrie for 3 weeks, because it's likely there will only be 2 episodes this week and one is on Wednesday, even though the announcer at the end of Thursdays episode said it was back next Thursday and all magazines state Thursday! ITV should have put Wednesdays Corrie in the magazines as an alternative schedule for if the football was shown on Monday.

It appears Corrie is losing 3 episodes this week (one on Mon, 2 on Fri)...not quite sure where that leaves them in terms of how many episodes to catch up..but it seems ITV will be playing them out on Wednesdays throughout the Summer to catch up, but surely they will be out of sync for a few weeks?ITV have had plenty of free slots to catch up on Corrie, but haven't taken them. Likewise for Emmerdale there's some catching up to do.

I must say the BBC have been excellent in trying to keep the EE audience (bar last Friday) and keep the episodes flowing without too many breaks or catching up.

On a side note tonight must be the first night in years that there is no 'big 3' soap airing...

he was funny..it was like a comedy show!..

The England match looks a bit low (funny saying that about a 14m figure and 70% share), but then again with it being Sunday afternoon there would be a lot of mass viewings in pubs etc.

Big Brother back up to 2.5m the highest since Wednesday night which is good to see. 800,000 rise on Saturday which is another good thing.

Match did well for England, probably would have guessed more as it was Sunday and no one is at work or school though.

Good average for the Argentina match.

They got lucky with their knock-out game falling Saturday primetime, letting ABC play it out in the afternoon. If they'd been in England's slot on the Sunday not so sure ABC would have aired it at 10am on a Sunday morning.


That's the same Sky News who said 19m watched the BGT final this year.


The 13.5m figure does seem low though - thought it would average over 15m and peak around 20m.

Fotball rating is a bit so-so to be honest. I suspect as usual, a lot of the weekend audience were in pubs & clubs and not counted in the football figure. Perhaps if more people had been watching Songs Of Praise, England would have done better

For all the hype about Glastonbury, the ratings have hardly registered at all.

But the share was low at less than 9%. I don't think it's very good. Looks like this series probably won't hit 3m again until the finale, even on eviction nights.

Glastonbury is more of a cult thing if anything but the coverage hasn't been great this year


I can't see BB increasing that much now, its fell back down to the better BB10 levels and probably won't go up much further until the All Stars bit.

I think the England match did well - in 2006, the coverage for the England v Portugal match in a similar sort of slot got 13.3m and that went into extra time and penalties (which brings in more viewers). The first hour yesterday was up against F1 so that would've dragged down the average a little bit and then the final half an hour was post-match analysis which not a lot of people would've wanted to watch especially after the poor result!

There's no previous history of weekend afternoon England matches peaking over 20m. It's nearly always been 17-19m peak and match average of about 15-17m. I suspect yesterday's match fell into that bracket.


I should have noted that the shares are C4-only shares and don't take +1 into account. Inc. +1, share for BB was 10%. Not much more anyway, but worth noting.

Clearly the first hour knocked down the average for the broadcast. Match average on BBC1 was 16.2m (75%), add in another ~1.5m (7%) watching on HD, and it averaged nearly 18m (82%) overall which compares very well to past England afternoon World Cup games.

Looks like nearly a million switched off when Germany scored their 3rd/4th goal.

I hate to defend Sky News, but they obviously get their figures from somewhere. They are not simply just plucking them out of thin air. Whether it be one-minute peaks or what, I don't know. Shame they are so lousy at making it clear what their figures actually refer to exactly.

Anyway, good solid numbers for both of yesterday's footie encounters. Looking at the breakdown the England game lost momentum quickly after the third and fourth Germany goal went in, shedding nearly 1m for the last 15 minutes of the game.

Additionally the hour long pre-match coverage was quite low, bringing down the overall average quite substantially, with distractions like good weather and Formula 1 reducing interest in such a long buildup.

The Argentina game did well to recapture interest in the World Cup after earlier disappointment.

Disagree with you there. 800,000 over four hours from 10pm to 2am is pretty excellent for BBC Two. Later with Jools Holland struggles to average that over half an hour at 10pm.

I just thought this would be worth putting here because there has been a lot of GMTV discussion in this thread. According to NOTW, Emma Crosby has been axed from GMTV. That, despite the 'doubts for Kate's future', leaves Helen Fospero and Kate Garraway in the running to be Christine's relief presenter, if of course they have a separate newsreader and then they could both end up staying on. If they stay, could it make the relaunch a waste of time? Helen staying wouldn't be a problem as shes relatively unknown, but Kate epitomises GMTV and everyone associates her with the current brand.

Poor Emma. In truth she was never suited to GMTV as newsreading is more her thing, but still it's a shame things have ended so badly for her there after all the hype when she joined not so long ago. No mention of her defecting to ITV News - perhaps she will go back to Sky - although that really would be a backward step.

Yes the share was 10% but the 2.5m is a good start and rise from lower levels. The eviction could get 2.8/2.9m... and mosty of the officials will hit 3m which would have it half a million above BB10.(or 20% higher). The officials we will get today, will be interesting to see how many hit 3m.

Wow for the match, looks like people started turning off when people began to realise it was inevitable that England werent going through. The shares are very interesting as well.Looks like after Lampards discounted goal, more people tuned in, until the 3rd/4th Germany goal which pretty much sealed their victory.

I feel a bit bad for Emma as well and she is a very good newsreader but not suited to GMTV at all. I really think after Fiona left, Penny should have moved up to the main 7-8.30am slot and Emma should have been more of a low key signing and put on the Newshour/newsdesk.

I'm still hoping she gets the Lunchtime News job, but its looking increasingly less likely as the original article said she was getting London Tonight as well, but Nina now has that. Meanwhile, ITV News are continuing to use Alastair and any other from the general ITV presenting pool on the 1.30pm news. From a ratings and resources perspective, it isn't really worth employing someone unnecessary for little difference, especially with ITV News being so overstaffed with women anyway.

If the ITV job doesn't surface, then I could actually see her going back to Sky. She is more well known now (I'd now put her as the 2nd most recognised Sky presenter behind Kay), and with Sky in the middle of a shake up it could attract a few extra viewers.
