BBC1 now cut away from news bulletin and are showing Escape to the Country.

Channel 4 press has confirmed schedules for week starting 12th June. Big Brother's times are as follows:

Sat 12th: 21:45-22:50
Sun 13th: 21:00-22:00
Mon 14th: 22:00-23:15
Tue 15th: 22:00-23:10
Wed 16th: 21:00-22:00
Thu 17th: 21:00-22:00
Fri 18th: 21:35-23:15

Makes sense for them to start the eviction show at that time, as England are playing a World Cup match on that night which should finish around 21:20.

Yeah I was just about to say how weird the Friday slot was BUT thats good, also i notice that teh first two Friday shows are both all one big show which is such a relief, it will mean there will be a higher audience, instead of breaking it up into 2 shows (one 1 hr show and another 30 min one).

So its steering clear of World cup competition I hope!!

Clever tactics by Channel 4. The reason for the 21:45 start on the Saturday is because that'll be the time ITV's programme finishes before the brat James Cordon invades the screen.

On Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday it'll be up against World Cup matches: Germany vs. Australia (ITV), South Africa vs. Uruguay (BBC) and France vs. Mexico (BBC).

Last year we went into overkill with both shows and momentum between the two shows has started to stall. The public just need a rest from the two shows. In most other countries, XF/Idol and Talent are not the biggest shows and they aren't subject to the same media frenzy that we are.

With the X Factor USA issue next year, X Factor UK may well be delayed.. I'd imagine Simon Cowell will want to appear on both shows but realistically that won't be possible if both programmes air in Autumn 2011.

Just to go off topic for a moment, I can't believe anyone feels that a killing spree is the right way to go in this day an age. RIP all those who were killed in the attack.

And to relate it to topic - I was only thinking yesterday that the last thing ITV wanted was a huge news item to pop up during the week - I was thinking along the lines of the coalition collapsing. I think they'll stick to Coronation Street at 9pm despite the gunline plot as they'll feel enough time has elapsed between the killer being found and the programme airing. Then again, they may see it as insensitive and move the show - I think the only possible slot for it is Saturday, interceding the Britain's Got Talent final - possibly pulling BGT forward to 7pm, Coronation Street at 9pm and the final results at 9.30pm.

Ratings seem insignificant after what happened, but Britain's Got Talent and Coronation Street did respectably, and tonight has lesser opposition against them so they could see a slight surge. EastEnders held up excellently and the 10pm repeat did brilliantly - that's obviously hurting Britain's Got More Talent as the BBC1 showing is hurting the main show. Holby City and Luther performed poorly, and it shows that Tuesday night is there for the taking if ITV can get their act together.

Len and Bruno judge on both Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With the Stars, with a days break to travel.

If The X Factor is aired the same as next year, that'd give Simon a day's travel to appear on The X Factor USA (providing it has the same scheduling as American Idol). Yes, he won't get to mentor much but I don't think he does anything bar pick the songs anyway. I'm sure ITV won't mind paying the phone bill if his acts have to call him while he's abroad (and same with Fox).

Did they? - when was the last time ITV got 3.8m in the Tuesday 8pm slot? - and thats up against an opposition of 5.5m not 10m!

That's a possibility I suppose. But unlike Len and Bruno, Simon is the producer of both shows which can take up more of his time, etc. With it being the first US season, I think he'll want to put in as much effort into the US version as possible to make sure it becomes a hit. Having the UK version running at the same time, could become a bit of a nuisance for him!


I agree Matt. Holby's a pretty strong show and is not there for the taking, bar the juggernauts of BGT and IAC. I think the only time this year (before last night) that ITV's averaged more than 3.8m in that slot was for The Brits.

High Street Dreams being given a very attractive slot there - up against the England match. Most of that is filler, which is understandable. Is Who Do You Think You Are? in this case one from the American series? How come it's only 45 minutes otherwise - they must have cut a bit! EastEnders moving to seven is sensible, it should give the night a good lead in to the rest of the evening, even if it's not taken. It's an interesting conundrum for ITV now - do they start Emmerdale at 18.45 as I thought they would on football nights, or do they just run up to 7pm as normal then have a half hour preview?

Resting them will do nothing for momentum, BB tried the same with the CBB series meant to follow CBB5 and it just caused interest to fade further while it was off air and create a feeling that the show was finished. Being "put on hiatus" is the kiss of death for any TV show.

And BGT and XF are not replacements. They have different formats and scheduling and so BGT only fills about 20 hours over 8 weeks compared to about 40 over 17 from The X Factor.

There hasn't really been a media frenzy through this BGT, so we can safely say that the public have had a rest.

The problem with XF is that it actually takes 3 days to film. The judges spend a long time at Fountain on Fridays filming the VT's and often do all their mentoring on that one day (including picking songs for the next week). Given the need for a day to travel back and forth, he'll need 8 days in the week!

Also, as Rzt says, he's unlikely to want to spend 2 days a week travelling when he's meant to be overseeing 2 shows and also in the 4th quarter which is the biggest for record labels (typically, Syco will release 5 or 6 albums in the period from October-December).

True. But I'd still argue that Holby City isn't as infallible (sp) as it can appear. The Wednesday episode dipped without the EastEnders lead in and it didn't hold up as well as EastEnders last night - I think we'll see the main soaps dip to that number in the summer just because of the weather.

If ITV move the soaps to 8pm Tuesday (Coronation Street first, followed by Emmerdale) by axing, say, the Thursday 7pm Emmerdale and the Friday 7.30pm Coronation Street then they could take the hour and give a firmer footing to the 9pm slot.


Fair point, but I reckon he has people he trusts who can take the role on - especially in the UK. I think he'll spend a lot of time on the production side while he's over there for the audition stage and then leave it to trusted others; I think the audition stage in the US will last a lot longer than the UK audition stage (I can see them getting the UK auditions out of the way in a week to give Simon more time in the US) to give him time to put stuff in place.
