Is a West End leading role too much for one young inexperienced girl

I think the lead role of Dorothy may be too much for one young inexperienced girl and it would be a good idea to share the role between two of the girls, say Danielle and Sophie. This would take a lot of the pressure off one girl and help them both to grow as performers .

As much as i like Danielle
I think this would be a very good idea and probably the fairest way to do it

No, I think all the girls have demonstrated great stamina during the course of the past couple of months and are more than prepared for and capable of a full time role in the West End.

They'll be fine

Excellent suggestion, I would be pleased for both girls.

Fair point, and I like/haved liked so many of the girls that a tie seems a good result, but if you're going to throw someone in at the deep end, Dorothy is a fairly safe place to throw her. She's surrounded for most of the time by a gang of other characters who can help her through and she's only got one very big number to deal with by herself.

I think whoever is chosen will cope just fine. I'd have preferred a rota of actual 12-year-olds, but that's just me. And there couldn't have been a BBC show, so fair enough...

I agree. Though I want Danielle to win, I'd be just as happy with her doing half the performances

They will have almost a year to prepare themselves for 8 shows a week (although very few leading ladies actually DO 8 shows a week these days...

I'm sure that they will get all the training in singing dancing and acting they need to be a success as part of their prize.

If Sophie wins, expect Danielle to be alternate Dorothy doing 7 shows a week......

In all seriousness given the problems Connie had (and that isn't a dig as I liked Connie) and the fact there was an alternate Nancy, I am surprised Dorothy is expected to do eight a week.

Ignoring the first bit , I'm not sure they are expected to, I know John kept saying it, but he's the only one who has said it so I doubt they have to do 8 shows a week.

Well, that's just another example of the audition shows turning things on their heads. In the old world, you'd be disappointed if the 'star' wasn't on for the odd matinee, now there are people who will actively seek out their preferred 'losing' Maria/Joseph/Nancy in certain performances because they've seen them on TV.

Most do - Roxie, Velma, Sandy, Mrs Johnstone, Kate-monster, all the Les Mis leads, Elle are all on 8 shows a week. Not sure what Rachel is doing in Wicked. Connie would have been and it was bizarre Jodie wasn't given the size of Nancy's role. Aoife, Siobhan, Niamh, Jessie, Abi, Helena and Rachel all did, and do, 8. Diana Vickers who is about Daniella's age did 8 in Little Voice. The exceptions are often in shows like Phantom where singing Christine 6 days a week would be a problem or wicked where the same judgement was made for that star.

Dorothy is an odd role - its bigger than the other young roles and you do have teams of 13-14 year olds playing that age in smaller roles. Dorothy has also been played recently by people who were 21-24 or even older.
