These are albums that I think got unfairly slated by the critics. Or just albums that should have received better reviews than they did.

Muse - Origin Of Symmetry

Ryan Adams - 29

Modest Mouse- The Moon and Antarctica

Oasis- Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. (was in something like Q's top 50 worst albums of the decade even though they gave it 4 stars.), it's actually a really solid and sounds very Massive Attack influenced, one of my favourite Oasis albums where Noel experiments.

Oasis- Be Here Now.

Mylo- Destroy Rock n Roll

What are your's?

Marina & The Diamonds - The Family Jewels

That's the one that immediately springs to mind. It has got mainly positive reviews, but some of the negative ones baffle me. They admit the songs are great and that Marina is a gifted songwriter and performer, yet they still find things to criticise - things that are totally meaningless and irrelevant. Sometimes I wonder what on earth some of these critics want.

Muse - Origin Of Symmetry
wasn't that album really well recieved

anyways...

Radiohead - Kid A: Didn't necessarily get slated but was pretty underappreciated when it came out. now those same critics universally name it one of the best albums of the decade

Radiohead - Hail To The Thief: Again, didn't get slated but was unfairly pitted against their other albums to the point where I don't think it was appreciated as a great album on its own and better than most stuff that was out that time

I know Led Zeppelins first albums were slated by Rolling Stone magazine when they first came out.

Bloc Party - A weekend In The City/Intimacy.. yes not as good as Silent Alarm but were still pushing boundaries and both albums were better than most of the indie dross that was around circa 2007/08

Kasabian - Empire: I think its a really good album but I think loads of critics hated it

Eminem - Encore, its my second favourite of his albums but is widely considered one of his worst

albums that should have recieved more attention...

Robots In Disguise - Robots In Disguise

Neutral Milk Hotel - In An Aeroplane Over The Sea

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven

M,I.A - Kala (got good reviews but it was only after Paper Planes was released that she came to more peoples attention, alot of people view her as a one hit wonder but the album on a whole in my opinion is fantastic)

Metallica - Load.

Bandwaggon hopping sell-out, or artists broadening their musical horizons? Doesn't really bother me either way, because there's some quality songwriting here that is often overlooked. Bleeding Me and The Outlaw Torn are up there with their best.

Yeah it was, but it's never really mentioned as a classic album and Muse always get tarnished with the "poor mans radiohead" brush. I actually find their music alot more appealing (Radiohead bore me to death) although I can only take Matt Bellamy's vocals in small does.

Not keen on anything past absolution though.

FFS, yeah it got good reviews,4/5 or something, but to me that record is the pinnacle of dance/house music and should be getting awards and album of the year tags.

It's one of my favourite albums of all time.

Q's always pulling shit like that. They big up a band and kiss their ass so much that when that band makes an album that isn't great they still give it a good review, no questions asked..then 5 years later realize their mistake

I've just realized aswell that with that statement I've just implied that SOTSOG isn't a great album.. please don't hurt me

Well I have heard of it but I agree, hardly anyone else I know has, and most of my friends are pretty into music. It's one of the few albums that I would say is pretty much perfect.

The Blueprint 3 - Jay-Z, it got alright reviews but not that great, true it wasn't his best work like 'Reasonable Doubt' and the original 'Blueprint' but I thought it was pretty awesome

"No-one ever erected a statue to a critic" - Jean Sibelius.

I don't pay much attention to critics, so I'd have no idea how to contribute to this thread but I love this album. Got it as a gift yesterday and I've been listening to it constantly, especially the second half. Rootless is beautiful, as is Numb.

100% agreed.

This album is fantastic is one of the best albums lyrically I've ever heard. And her bonus track cover of Little Wing is so so beautiful.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
The Neutral Milk Hotel album is a wierd one, I think it got mixed reviews when it was first released and I have to admit I was completely oblivious to it at the time, yet over the years its gradually built up a real following - Pitchfork Media placed it at No 4 in their list of the top 100 albums of the 90s.

Great album though!

And as for Godspeed You! Black Emperor - just brilliant, shame they've split up now (although the offshoot band Silver Mt Zion are still going)
