Out of interest - if you say someone is - and you know they are - but it is unverified - do you get banned? What's the beef with that - do you need to do a HIGNFY thing - allegedly or is it OK?

A certain Geordie TV presenter who hosts shows with his sidekick. His sports presenter "girlfriend" eats furry pie.

But I agree - it's not up to us it's up the individual but when it's seen as a dirty secret so it will remain and it's not. Regardless of your background being open and honest, even if it means losing your family (though normally they actually do come around) to a certain degree, is better for the individual surely. Living a lie is no walk in the park but the more it's hidden the more it's seen as a bad thing. My friend killed himself because he lived this lie - absolutely tragic and I begged him to tell the truth - the fear outweighs the reality sometimes but that's not easy to realise when you're living it. Having said all that - I can't bear it when out and proud gays (ahem you Boy George) revel in "outing" people because they had the ability to do so and it's the individual's prerogative. My uncle's gay and I've grown up with the knowledge so have never known it not a "normal" thing. I'm lucky maybe for that because it just was never an issue but in the world of celebrity until it's viewed as a viable and workable way of life it will continue to be of interest. All of this is easy for me to say - I'm not so haven't actually dealt with it myself. I don't believe because you're gay you have to be some bloody poster boy/girl either and spend your life fighting for rights - you can just be and let the ones that want to do just that. But don't guilt people (ahem BG that's to you again). |

It's just a guess but I would say the majority of male leading men in Hollywood are either gay or bisexual and this has always been the case, it's only years later, usually when they die that we find out.
Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, James Dean, Steve McQueen all bisexual for example. |

Personally I think this whole " having to tell everyone your entire personal life for the sake of reducing stigma" is just an excuse for a ton of nosy people to pry into celebrities lives. Im very sorry for your friend who died. Generally speaking, individuals that suffer from such a severe level of depression in this regard also have severe self-image disorders. I dont think that keeping the secret would have been the sole cause, but rather a symptom of a much deeper issue. |

It's worth being 'in the closet' these days because at the first molecular whiff of 'fame' that brushes past you, you get the Heat and co toilet paper rags queuing up to pay you thousands for the slightest hints of ambiguity and you can thus make a killing by skilfully imparting a couple of hints at a time.

From reading the bits of Matthew Horne's interview, I got the impression that he wasn't having a go at those who were closeted (perhaps because they believed that family and friends may reject them if they came out - thankfully mostly an unfounded but understandable fear) or who hadn't accepted their homosexuality but those celebrities who, away from the cameras, were persuing an active gay lifestyle but then wheeled out their 'beards' into the gossip columns and celebrity mags whenever there was a hint that their lifestyle may become public knowledge.
I've seen a few so-called 'straight' celebs gaying it up in some pubs and clubs around Soho only to see so-called 'papped' and spontaneous pictures of them and their 'girlfriends' in the pages of Heat magazine or some-such which were actually very carefully staged, so I can understand where he is coming from. |

I know I'm seeing it in a very simple way and it's not a simple debate but the longer people live with beards the longer unacceptance of a community stands. I repeat it's easy for me to say but I do think it's rather self-perpetuating. The tragedy is that the industries absolutely encourage the cloak and dagger stuff so essentially it's changing them not the people involved. |

That guy who is the dj on The Ellen Show. I think his name is Tony..he speaks in a cliched "upper-class" english accent as so many Brits do when they appear on American tv - see Sean Maguire.

personally i dont care if people are gay/straight/bi in or out the closet, thats their business as long as its consensual who cares? but i can see where other people come from when they find out or think that someone they're a fan of hides in the closet and has a beard etc, even though its none of anyones business, you couldnt help but feel a bit let down and lied to! i dunno anyone who likes that! whatever anyones reason for not admitting their sexual preference is their business it shouldnt matter who they love/like/are sleeping with!!
i just like guessing who is or who isnt!! its not meant in a malicious way its only a bit of fun!!
