By the way, I saw on the front page of DS that someone who knows him says Jake Gyllenhaal is not gay. I wasn't aware there was some belief he might be, but those sort of comments make me wonder. Does anyone here know if he is gay?
Jake has long been rumoured but it's not known. Said to have hosted all male Hollywood parties, Burt Lancaster style!!

Nooooo! He may be happily married but I still have my hopes that one day I will have him! If he's gay I have no chance.

Morrissey from the Smiths, surely? A great singer-songwriter but as camp as Christmas and supposedly "celibate" all this time.

I used to think Matthew Wright was gay but I was stereotyping by his mannerisms. My daughter (age 21) loves him and said she would love a man like him as a boyfriend.. she loves his quick wit..
Wrighty was famously "outed" on his own show once by a member of the audience.

I'm not sure about his "quick wit" though. If he was that funny he'd have been picked up by one of the bigger and better channels by now rather than languishing on Channel Five in the mornings!

Are any of the 11 Doctor Who's gay? I'm just wondering if the closet could be a blue wooden box with a flashlight on the top....

Because if its true that one in ten is gay, then there must be at least one among them.....
There have been rumours about William Hartnell, the first Doctor. His granddaughter addressed the rumours that he might have had a gay affair, although she said she believes he didn't. According to Peter Purves in his recent autobiography, Hartnell was quite prejudiced against gay actors and refused to speak to Max Adrian, who was openly gay.

Wrighty .... 'outed' When?

He has just got married, but he never comes across as 'on the other bus' at all.

His programme is high quality, if anyone would care to watch. Great presenter, great guests and panellists, topical and intellectually thought out debates. If only it were on a main channel it would be hailed as a great show.

I see This Morning have copied TWS with their paper review, however it's still not as thorough and just about scrapes the surface of any story they cover.

I digress ...... I love watching The Wright Stuff, I even record it each day so I don't miss it.

Vote TWS for an NTA award.

It's mentioned here, though Wright laughs it off and confirms he's not gay just in case anyone had any doubts:

Intellectually thought out debates like "Would anyone shag Susan Boyle now she's got some money?"

I've seen plenty of Wright Stuffs and while it's frequently entertaining, Matthew Wright and high quality do not belong in the same sentence I'm afraid. The man was and remains a low-level tabloid hack. It probably is Britain's brightest daytime show but then, as Wright admitted recently, it ain't got much competition there. I do think that they have some good discussions but Wright is a jumped up, sycophantic pratt. Just IMHO.

He alluded to it from the earliest days of The Smiths in his lyrics.Lots of hero worship too of gay icons like Oscar Wilde,Pat Phoenix and Diana Dors.

His sex life is something of a mystery though.Don't think I've ever heard him linked with anyone.

All Morrissey fans have heard about Jake!

He's a guy Morrissey is supposed to have had a relationship with, don't know if it's true though, his private life is a complete mystery.

Since the swimming is on and Ian Thorpe is commenting for the bbc, I was reminded of him.. Lots of gay rumours surround him although he's stated "I'm not gay" a few times.

There's never been any real sign of a girlfriend and he moved away from Australia, to Los Angeles, where he lived with a 'room-mate', Daniel Mendes, for at least 3 years. http://the17thman.typepad.com/my_web...el-mendes.html

I have been following this thread for a while, but never had anything to contribute that I could think of. Having listened to my local radio station this evening, and a certian bloke who is very out and loves to name drop people he 'likes'...my two are..

Alan Titchmarsh

and, God rest his soul because he is no longer with us, Bob Monkhouse. (Closetted in a very different way now, but free to scamper like a lamb and do what he wants forever more!).

Hugh Grant is not gay at all he has always been very manly.
So all gays are girly? Many gay guys are more manly than some straights.

Gay does not mean camp. Most are just regular guys, shock horror!

Sorry for the bump but I cant stand stereotyping

And I'd hardly call Hugh Grant manly

My belief is anyone who decides (THEIR CHOICE) to be some sort of celebrity or in the media generally (politician, successful sportsperson, etc), ought to disclose their sexual orientation so that there can be no confusion about it. With most other minority groups it is obvious, but sexuality can be hidden and whilst I wouldn't go so far as to refer to those who are in the closet as "sneaky gays" like Sue from Glee does, I think they should be required to state what they consider their orientation to be (and if there is some degree of doubt about their claim, that they should be tested to ensure they aren't lying).

At least I believe this should be what happens in countries where homosexuality is not considered a crime, so I'd accept that media figures in Iran, Saudi Arabia and countries with similar laws should stay in the closet.

It was their choice to be in the media, so it should be our right to know whether or not they are gay. Being gay is nothing to be ashamed of.

By the way, I saw on the front page of DS that someone who knows him says Jake Gyllenhaal is not gay. I wasn't aware there was some belief he might be, but those sort of comments make me wonder. Does anyone here know if he is gay?
Why do you think this should be the case - and please don't think I am being facetious, I am genuinely intrigued. Their choice was to be in the media for a talent one would imagine - be it musical, acting, even entrepreneurialism these days, and I genuinely don't see a link between choosing to be a musician = the world has a right to know your sexual orientation.

A person who is lucky enough to be successful in their chosen field of The Arts would be thoroughly naive, I agree, to think that there isn't going to be interest in their private lives, but they are under no obligation to give any information.

In the same way as any single individual living in this country, working in an office, or in a shop, or in a factory, has no obligation to tell their work colleagues anything at all about their private lives. That's why it's called a 'private' life.

Just because you choose a career that may lead to your being in the public eye, I see no reason why the differentiation between professional and private life should be any different. It's a matter of personal choice, and if people don't wish to discuss their private life or sexual orientation, they should have that freedom of choice. Of course the media will dig and speculate, but no one should be obliged to respond to such speculation.

I must admit I haven't read the whole thread, but on the basis of a random dip, am I right in thinking the summary is:

Everyone who has ever been in the public eye is gay.

?

It's will probably remain a mystery as he doesn't want his sexuality, whatever it may, be to be more important than the songs or the person. After all 'What Difference Does It Make?'

Mystery causes fascination.

Lloyd Daniels is definitely gay. Did noone else see those pictures from the Xtra Factor where he was getting nice and close with the American contestant from the boys category?
The American guy was hugging him from behind has Holly spoke to them all and Lloyd had his hand in the guys back pocket.
Yeah, the delicious Ethan. No-one would've been able to keep their hands off him though. He was god-like.

If it can turn out that Rock Hudson was gay, then practically anybody could be in the closet

There is nothing wrong with speculation, but it annoys me so much when people say they know for a fact that someone is gay.

For example, I have heard a few ridiculous people saying things like "A source/there was a rumour/apparantly Jake Gyllenhaal is gay, so there's your proof" and then say "Jake Gyllenhaal saying he has a girlfriend is just a cover up, how can you say that's proof he's not gay?".

Seriously? Can anyone really be that deluded and critical? Wishful thinking at it's finest. We can't know for sure who is gay or straight. Of course the gay and bisexual people will be vastly outnumbered (as we are everywhere) but I'm sure there are a few closeted people. But we can't say for sure who it is or isn't.

It's the same when people deny someone is gay or dating someone. I even heard someone claim that Chris Colfer was in love with Dianna Agron

As a bisexual girl, I am lucky that I don't usually find gay men attractive (and they don't find me attractive either )

on x-factor

what were the producers up to? Cheryl hangs out with will i am that dancer and married one...

i thought they were making out she was - cos I think she is gay - especially with that 16 year old cher - the way she was looking at her and what she was saying

is it just me that thought this?
My Mum has always said she thought Cheryl is a lesbian and her and Ashley's marriage was one of convienience ... likewise with her current relationship with Derek.
