Yeah I'm glad that he's not getting pushed to the background, it'll be interesting to see how they balance having 2 companions now, I hope it doesn't mean Amy doesn't feature as much.

I'm really enjoying the previews by lastbroadcast, they are well written and informed for the most part. Plus they seem to pretty much be seeing this whole series through my own eyes so far!!!

what a terrific preview! As for Rory, I have a feeling Series 5 will either end with his noble sacrifice or he'll be revealed to be something connected with the crack - and not in a good way!

I noticed in last week's Confidential that Arthur Darvil said something like "that's me done" after he'd finished shooting the episode. Not sure if he meant just for that episode or the for good, as that was the last episode of the series to be shot.

Amy's choice was the last story they shot...so Arthur would have been talking about his final scenes.

Awww...this could be the story that Amy clicks for you...and you may wish on a repeat viewing that she had more to do

Yeah I wondered that, it just seemed to be more final, the way he said it.

Amy doesn't feature much, I haven't liked Rory the past two episodes, so maybe now he's given more to do he'll grow on me, well I hope so as I was looking forward to this episode.

"if you’re eagle-eyed enough, seems to provide us with a very decent deus ex machina all ready for use in the following episode."

Well it's not a deus ex machina if it's bloody sign posted a whole episode early is it!

Grr

SFX preview:

http://www.sfx.co.uk/2010/05/20/doct...-free-preview/

Spoiler
1 Part of the plot might remind old-school fans of “The Daemons”.

2. One of the main characters has a learning disability.

3. The returning aliens have a dangerous new ability.

4. The Doctor has a new accessory which makes Matt Smith look very cool.

5. Two authors are quoted: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Julia Donaldson.

6. After an exchange with Rory, Amy takes her engagement ring off.

7. Both Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill have more than one role. Well… kind of.

8. Someone new takes a trip in the TARDIS. Well… kind of.

9. We learn something about the doctor’s culinary abilities.

10. At one point, the Doctor does something that cats sometimes do. But without puking on your carpet afterwards. And no, it’s not licking his own bottom.

Quote:
“Chris Chibnall, the writer, has come up with a gem here. Although it has a slow start, that just adds to the excitement as screw is turned (hard) and the episode unfolds … it’s got classic two-parter written all over it. You can cut the tension with a knife once things go dark, and in testimony to how well produced the show is, even when the lights come back on … you’re still scared. What is so good about this series is the way it keeps developing, evolving and keeping the viewer guessing … The Hungry Earth is no exception … and as your 45 minutes draws to an end … another epic cliff hanger is on the cards.”

“As a comparative, The Hungry Earth is Series Two's The Impossible Planet meets Avatar - and one scene at the end, in particular, is as visually stunning and breath-taking as the latter.”
