We've had sad song threads, and happy songs, and summer songs, but no scary songs yet. Is there any music out there that genuinely scares or unsettles you?
I'll start the ball rolling:

Intense Humming of Evil by Manic Street Preachers - the treated percussion bit at the beginning makes me feel really cold and strange. I've only listened to this song all the way through once, and I used to be obsessed with The Holy Bible as a teenager.

Hamburger Lady by Throbbing Gristle - the lyrics are so harrowing once you can hear them, and the music sounds so discordant and unsettling at first. Do not listen to this in a dark room by yourself.

I don't quite know how I feel about this. I think it's beautiful and quite relaxing, yet also unsettling. Anyone else agree?

Edit: I first heard it in an episode of skins (the characters were camping). Possibly why I find it unsettling.

This. It makes me shake with fear every time it comes on the radio.

This is pretty scary too. But I love it. In a twisted kind of deranged little spooky child way.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

If that Devil's tritone guitar riff doesn't send chills down your spine, nothing will. All scary music can be traced back to Black Sabbath anyway, given that they were the first to do it.

The Associates - Party Fears Two.

The fade-out especially.

Without looking at the link is it Bon Iver?

I downloaded it but had to be seen with the scene to have full impact.

this is my fave track of the mo, it's on the sad songs thread too but Venetian Snares - Öngyilkos Vasárnap

Which is Hungarian for 'Suicide Sunday'

As it is a reworking of 'Gloomy Sunday' by Billie Holliday

Which in itself is a cover of a composition nicknamed "The Hungarian Suicide Song" due to the record being related to a scary amount of suicides over the years, including the composer and his fiancé

Good thread! I love 'scary' music. It fascinates me how music can be eerie and unsettling, and how musicians can evoke that either intentionally or unintentionally.

I agree with the OP about MSP's The Intense Humming Of Evil. The whole of Holy Bible is scary, I think, musically and lyrically.

Another 'scary' album for me is Radiohead's Kid A. Especially the title track and Treefingers.

My daughter says she can't listen to anything by Radiohead as all their music unsettles her, she says it's something to do with the minor keys they often use.

Talking of Radiohead!

Especially the wailing bit at 4 mins.

Very creepy lyrics, about an escaped mental patient apparently.

Mama by Genesis was pretty scary when I was younger, especially when Phil Collins used to do his torch trick!

I really like that Aphex Twin song, I like a lot of his stuff - his face though it's just it makes all his videos scary.

The first 12 inch single I ever bought

For me the two tracks '97 Bonnie and Clyde and Raining Blood from Tori Amos's Strange Little Girls album are pretty chilling.

That's one of my favourite Cure song's - I don't think it's scary though, maybe cause I grew up listening to it.

Undoubtedly a genius, but totally scary

Rubber Johnny
Come To Daddy (Daddy Mix)
Windowlicker

All these vids fit well into the scary genre.

Yeah, it took me ages to get his face out of my head. I love that windowlicker video though, but I just can't watch the one with the little old lady in it.

For scary videos you can't really beat NIN's Broken movie.

Ah, I love both of those. Especially TG. Absolute classic band. "Slug Bait"'s another supremely disturbing track of theirs.
