I think that should be Buddy Holly's Heartbeat.

I remember their break through on New Faces, they were a great Rock & Roll revival band but somehow they got caught up in the whole Glam Rock thing and got watered down. Still enjoyed them though.

I saw them about 10 years ago at a open air concert in Colchester (may have been longer) along with Marmalade and The Tremeloes. They were great live and still had most of the original members. Mind you they had a legacy of hits for everybody to sing along to.

Romeo Challenger, the black member of the group, is the father of the athlete Ben Challenger.

Sorry, I cannot agree with that statement. IMO Showaddywaddy were not even the best Fifties Revival band of the the Seventies. That honour must surely go to the marvellous Darts.

Ha ha! Because of course, Queen, Roxy Music, T Rex, Slade, The Jam, Sex Pistols, The Clash etc were all rubbish
I used to hate it when I sat down to TOTP and they came on and spoiled it

Darts had sort of fallen off my radar until about a month ago. I picked up an album in a second hand shop for 25p and really enjoyed it. So much that I burnt a CD copy (after a bit of cleaning) for the car.

It's Raining is a fantastic song.

Yes, that's a great track, but I think that it was preceded as the first successful rock 'n' roll revival track of the Seventies by the excellent "Travelling Band" by the fabulous Creedence Clearwater Revival, a hit in 1970.

hmm.... yep i like ccr, im not sure though that 'travelling band' was so much rock n roll revival as just plain rock, was it?... seems more like a 'left over' then a 'revival' track and they all looked like what the kings of leon would do 40 years hence. when the move...roy wood, did 'california man' it was the first of a whole movement in that year. in fact woodys panchant for rock n roll split up the move and elo continued to progress whilst woody spearheaded the british rock n roll revival with wizzard.

Travelling Band owes a lot to Little Richard's Long Tall Sally. John Fogerty was very entrenched in Rock & Roll - don't forget he wrote the Staus Quo hit Rocking All Over The World. However he also invented the "swamp" sound with tracks like Green River & Born On The Bayou. It was that mixture that made CCR unique.

Whether Wizzard were a Rock & Roll revival band is debatable - more like an early 60's revival band, but Are You Ready To Rock is probably more Bill Haley than Haley.

I loved Roy's work with the Move, you really have to go a long way to find better pop songs than Fire Brigade and Blackberry Way. His problem was that he just went stupid in the Studio trying to be like Phil Spector and chucked the kitchen sink at nearly all the later Wizzard stuff - like those bag pipes on Are You Ready To Rock - why?

The annoying thing is that he also wrote one of my all time favourite songs in Dear Elaine - when he was controlled he was fantastic. Jeff Lynne knew how to control it all which is why ELO had the greater success. Roy needed that control in my opinion, but obviously couldn't take it.

But California Man - what a song. In fact I feel the urge to dig it out and have a listen. Bopping around the front room at 4:00am
