JLS flop in America
It seems the big push to break the UK's biggest current boyband in America, isn't really paying dividends. Their song "Everybody In Love" has been recieving heavy rotation on American radio for the last few months, and has been supported by the biggest radio network in America. Despite this, the song did not do well on i-tunes, and it now has a negative bullet on airplay (which in American radio-speak, means that the Yanks have pretty much given up on the song). I think the song is currentl 400 and something on US i-tunes.
I wonder if Gordon Smart from The Sun is going to keep peddling his usual bollocks about JLS being on the "verge" of conquering America, as if they were the Beatles or something. Smart is seriously on the JLS payroll or something. To be fair, they seem to be such a big industry in the UK at the minute, that it pays for the media to keep them sweet. But I remember the days when big UK artists flopping in America would be big news in the tabloids. Robbie Williams was regularly ripped by the press for not doing well in America. Now the press seems to protect acts like JLS from the stigma of being regarded as failures in America. Interesting how things change. |

The thing I don't understand is why didn't they release beat again or one shot.
1000 times better than "Everybody in love" which is one of the worst songs to top UK charts. It's a joke!, JLS will possibly get a another chance on releasing another single. Which maybe will be from their album, or maybe a completely new song. They have been working with Jay Sean, but I guess if the song is good. It should do well. |

When the likes of Rhianna and Jay-Z saw the frenzy JLS generated in the UK, they made noises about possibly working with them (maybe just to keep the British press happy, but whatever). In the cold light of day however, I can't see those artists risking their reputations by endorsing JLS in America. Jay Sean has less to lose. He's had one or two succesful singles in America, but singles sales alone won't make an artist rich. He doesn't sell albums anywhere (US or UK), and needs to find a way to shore up sales in his home market. Working with JLS might make British fans actually want to buy a Jay Sean album. |

Give the guys a chance, they haven't really spent that much time in the US, you have to remember it takes a long time to crack the states as it's a huge country and a very tough market.
Personally i think JLS should wait a year or so before attempting to really make it big in the US, as a lot of time and dedication is needed, plus a few more songs wouldn't go amiss, before they showcased their music. |

To be honest, I've never heard anything of them in America. Only way I knew they had a single out was through the internet. Not once have I heard EIL on the radio, seen the music video for it on television, nor have I seen them perform it live on a major television show(Local tv shows like GoodDay New York don't really count)They needed to be on shows like American Idol, Good Morning America, Dancing with The Stars, etc to atleast get a little boost here. It was like they just came over here with no type of hype. Also, I hope if they do try and attempt to crack it again, they don't have a feature with some artist. Usually with a feature, even if it is a hit, the album by said artist usually flops hard. That's why I think Epic have waited with Alexandra. I think/hope they are planning on releasing a single without any features, just Alex by herself. I love Alex, I am a fan of hers, but I fear she's becoming the next Keri Hilson. I mean it's been proven she can get a hit on her own, why does the label insist on putting her with these features? In my opinion, Alex and JLS should both debut later on this year on the X factor USA.

I think they made a mistake by not trying out Europe and Australia first like Alex, Cheryl and Leona all did/are doing in the case of the former two

Thing is though, the only reason JLS are massive over here is because of the hype they enjoyed off the back of being on X Factor. In other countries they don't have the same luxuries as they do here.

Alexandra and Cheryl are doing the right thing by doing Europe first, plus Alex has more of an advantage has she is still featured, even now on the US blogs and they know about her over there thanks to the Beyoncé duet. I think JLS will try again with the second album, though if The Club Is Alive is anything to go by, the Americans will not take to that very well, it sounds like a cheap attempt to hop on the BEP bandwagon. Their management need to think long and hard about JLS going overseas as to me they seem like a UK only band. |

i honestly feel that Alexandra will have more success out of the lot because she has a very raw R&B thing going on and Beyonce style image (but different) and she will appeal i am sure if promoted right.
Cheryl may or may not (i like her as a person but don't enjoy her solo stuff one bit really and GA were okay!) she needs to show herself in the US X Factor (if she's on it) so Americans will understand what she's all about then see what tunes she can do, we'll see but hopefully from her experiences after her first record and in her personal life she will develop newer and more raw sounding tunes, maybe something along the lines of Ri-Ri's Rated R album, or brit Brit's Blackout in terms of EFF YOU to the Pap's Ex's and the public in a stylized way and develop her vocals more and ind her feet, she may create something great with it, i mean she could push more for a deeper voice and develop rhythm or go for a higher and more flexible sounding voice to become diverse...who knows?!?! hate JLS

Exactly. Here they've had everything handed to them on a plate, whereas in the real world they'll have to work to achieve anything - like every other artist has to. The problem is they won't be prepared to put in the years or work required to really break outside of their short-term UK success. |

Their second album probably won't be as succesful in the UK let alaone the US though... Most of their fans would have grown up by then, the hype from the X Factor would have died down a little. I feel its kind of now or never. Leona did well with Blleding love in America but second album comes out and no one cares there anymore

Do you think the same will be for Alexandra?? She seems to be on an upwards curve unlike JLS and Leona, look at All Night Long, its the 4th single from the album yet its already #3......
They're saying the same thing about Joe McElderry now, Gordan Smart thinks they love him in America and its so exaggerated |

i completely agree about what you say about Gordon smart he is always bragging about them and bigging them up as this ultimate boy band.
Im glad they have flopped cause they are already sure of themselves imagine what they would of been like. |

I see what you mean by all these features (half of her UK releases to date) though Im not sure how much you can compare her to Keri Hilson who usually has a 'minor' part as opposed to Alexandra who has the 'major' part

Maybe we need to give them a bit more time before we write them off.

no offence to jls but they mime an awful lot, americans aren't fan of mimers, hats off to alex, she is a good performer and the majority of the time sings live.
i think alex will have a good chance, alot of hype is building up around her on youtube etc, alot of american fans comment 'ITS BEEN A YEAR AND NO ALEXANDRA YET, WHAT IS HAPPENING, SHE'LL BLOW UP IN THE STATES?' and shes comfirmed she'll be going there after australlia/new zealand/asia so the next couple of months we should hear about alex beginning to recieve airplay, im guessing bad boys will be debut but maybe there gonna wait for her 2nd album, maybe there waiting for a big platform to like debut her from maybe X FACTOR USA (considering i doubt she'd get an american idol slot now simon is leaving) Simon is appearing on Operah soon so I'm guessing Simon will speak about Alexandra while hes on the show and try create some more hype about her there. Good luck to alex! but things aren't looking good for JLS and like someone else mentioned 'The Club Is Alive' is hardly a good lead single either... and will NOT chart in america, just a cheap wannabe rnb song. |

Although Alex never had the massive debut that Leona had, nor has her album been especially massive, it has still performed respectably, and I get the feeling she may be the XF winner with longevity.
I liked Bad Boys, Broken Heals grew on me more and more, and All Night Long is fab. Great singles and they might have just made me look into buying an album I never considered before. If all subsequent albums have some grower singles like this, she might be set. |
