Confused about my new o2 tarriff

I've just upgraded after 10 years on o2 Pay & Go to o2 simplicity for Blackberry Curve. The package is called "Simplicity for BlackBerry - 12 months".

You get 300 minutes, unlimited texts and it says "BlackBerry Unlimited" as an inclusive bolt on. Meant to be £10 per month, but my mate works for o2 so I get it for £7, plus they transfer over my existing credit from the Pay & Go sim, let me keep the same number and send a £5 M&S voucher.

It all seems a little too good to be true so I wondered if anyone could please clarify this -

Does the "BlackBerry Unlimited" mean you can go online as much as you want, receive / send data such as emails, and you will never need to pay anything for this?

What sort of speed is 3G, and will be be similar to an old dial up connection, or closer to broadband speeds?

Thanks in advance

I believe it used to cost £17.50 but was recently changed to £10, the £7.50 would be the Blackberry Unlimited Add on so youre basically getting the add on for free but still paying the £10 for the 300 minutes and texts. I don't believe there is any cap on how much you can use apart from the fair use thing.

By the way did the Blackberry you bought need unlocking? I was told the Orange ones are locked but T Mobile ones shouldn't be by Phones 4U.

I'm sorry I can't help with the 3G part of your question as I haven't bought a Blackberry yet but intend to purchase one and possibly with the Blackberry for Simplicity contract.

In some areas the 3g/HSDPA servive is good but in other areas the 3g/HSDPA service is only poor to medium as I found out after getting the Sony Ericsson Elm on 02 pay and go nearly 8 weeks ago.

The curve does not support 3G to the best of my knowledge, so you're going to be restricted to GPRS/EDGE

2G
GPRS = General Packet Radio System (up to 114 kbps)
EDGE = Enhanced Data GSM Environment (up to 560 kbps)

3G
UMTS = Universal Mobile Telephone Service (up to 1.8 Mbps)
HSDPA = High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (up to 3.6 Mbps)
HSUPA = High Speed Uplink Packet Access (up to 7.2 Mbps)

Think they are right.

there is another as Vodafone have speeds upto 14.4Mbps in trial.

I bought mine second hand (well, from someone who never used it), and he had it on Vodafone so I paid a tenner to get it unlocked and it works fine on o2.
