On my 30 years on this planet I don't think I have ever liked 1 UK act and i've went through various stages from rock to indie to house to trance and now at the country stage, Your Cheryl Cole's etc never did anything for me nor did the beetles, stones etc, any acts I did/do like have always came from the states.

Don't be so narrow-minded. Look elsewhere other than the charts these days and you'll find some amazing British bands and artists.

Well I never liked pop or rnb for a start, don't like indie either so what are we left with?

The OP clearly doesn't know 'British' music then, we have some amazing artists. I really like Ellie Goulding, her songs are amazing and can really sing, Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis are also very good and they represent the UK worldwide, Amy Winehouse despite her problems and Pixie Lott are also very good.

Don't get me wrong I do like a lot of what's in the charts but it's not a representation of what's really out there

Rock and metal is what we used to be known for. You say that you've liked indie in the OP, and later you say you don't.

What -do- you like then?

Well if you hate Pop or R&B or Indie then when it comes to Electronic and Dance music the UK has produced loads of stuff lately to be massively proud of. All the Dubstep, House, UK Funky, 'Future' Garage, Electronic, Techno, etc. that have come out this country the past few years, but let me guess, you hate Dance music as well

I meant specific artists, really. There are plenty of good house acts we've produced over the years.

I don't hate dance music but typically go for the soulful type house which 9/10 comes from the US, artists like Groove Junkies etc, dubstep is awful IMO

Forget Ellie Goulding

What about Paul Weller, The Jam, The Clash, David Bowie, The Kinks, John Lennon, the list is never ending!

I hope you realise how broad Dubstep is. There's a massive difference between producers like Rusko, Caspa and Skream to people like Burial, Darkstar, Guido or Cooly G for example to simply label all of it awful

I guess it's just you then? Nothing to do with music being bad in essence, but just your personal preference?

British rock music>>>>American rock music

Briitish dance/ techno/ house music>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>American

The rest is debatable.

What American music do you like then?

You know, music isn't simply made up on the spot in one box, in one country, by people of the same nationality 100% of the time don't you? There are so many similar acts between the UK and the US, with varied collaborations, backstage production, etc., preventing music from always being as simple as just "British Music" or "American Music". To go through the coincidence of not even liking a single UK act, I don't really think it is your tastes. I think it is just you. That's my opinion anyway.

You're probably just not looking in the right places. In any country there is always a massive variety of musical output from multiple decades, so the chances of you liking absolutely nothing are very slim.

What US bands do you like? What is it about British bands you find irritating?

And a bit of a side issue- but British music and American music aren't your only two options. There are 195 countries in the world- why limit yourself to two?

I hate the british acts that top the charts nowadays, however two current british acts that I love are stornoway and laura marling, hopefully they're the future of what's popular over here.
