Senior cat food question
Leicester_Hunk
20-05-2010
Just bought two boxes of Whiskas sachets, one for senior cats and one for adult cats. Two of our cats are over 8, the other one is 3. I fed the two older ones with a chicken pouch and then got one out of the other box for the younger cat, thought I would give him chicken as well, and the sachet was identical to the alleged senior foods. Anyone else come across it?

to be honest with foods, they will look exactly the same but the senior food will have slightly less nutritional value than the adult food, but it'll have a higher level of vitamins and minerals.

Cheaper cat food will be bulked up with cereal and may be better for your cat as some cats can't take too much meat in the food. That was told to me by a vet.

We had a cat that if fed on Whiskas cat food she would get the runs and when I say runs it was more like the gallops. Our vet told us that some cats can not take food with almost all meat in it's make up and so the cheaper ones would be better for her. It worked and she never had that problem again.

I don't think it has less nutritional value but I think it is lower in carbohydrates as that can trigger diabetes problems in older cats.

a senior cat has a lower MER than an adult cat

so the foods formulated for them have a lower amount of carbs, fats (energy) and protein in them

comparatively, it has less nutritional value than a food formulated for an adult cat, however it has the correct nutrient levels in it for a senior cat.

or it should have anyway. wether the theory i've soent the last three weeks sitting though is wrong or manufacturersthink different.
