Playing MP4s on Desire
Mine arrived yesterday and it's a mighty fine machine but the deal breaker could be the fact that it appears to be a faff to play my ripped MP4 movies.
All have been done with Handbrake and imported into iTunes but I transferred a plain old MP4 of "Avatar" yesterday and the various video players I have tried see it but only play the audio. Great game for the kids to play guess the part of the film from the sound only. They were spot on ![]() Starting to think that I should have waited for the iPhone as it would have worked seemlessly with my Mac. I downloaded DoubleTwist late last night and transferred the MP4 into it as I had heard that the program would make it HTC compatible but still I only got audio. Any ideas chaps and chapesses. Cheers. I do have 6 more days whilst I can return it but it is on a very cheap deal with a dongle thrown in. |

Did you use the iPhone preset in Handbrake? I do all mine using that (well, a slightly tweaked version as I up the resolution and decrease the CRF) and they play just fine on the Desire. I use Meridian player but they work fine in the stock player too.
I would check that: a) the files actually play on your PC; b) the files are transferring fully and correctly (ie. you're doing a safe eject rather than just unplugging the phone) If no joy, post back your Handbrake settigns and I'll have a look at them compared to mine. |

Cheers.
My Handbrake settings where the preset for high quality ipod/iphone but these won't play on the Desire, all I get is the audio. I have had some success putting the ipod video (Avatar) thru Video Converter and setting it manually but it does not look anywhere as good and it jerks every 10 secs or so. Strangely I stuck another one thru the same process (Futurama) and after a false start (no audio) it now works and looks great. The Avatar mp4 file was originally 480 x 272 Codecs H.264, AAC Bit rate 1087 1000 mb The new file was something like: 750 x 480 Codecs MPEG-4, AAC Bit rate 887 993 mb Thanks again |
