I should add that I enjoyed AC nonetheless

I can see the similarities but even if it was a rip-off, it wouldn't be the first time, Doctor Who has being doing it for years, especially in the 70's when they took some of their ideas for the show from Quartermass and Hammer Horror Films.

The premise of being stuck between two worlds, one is a dream, the other isn't, but they both turn out to be dreams has been a sci fi staple for quite a while. Stargate SG-1 for example did an episode just like it

Just one more thing, what was it Terrance Dicks once said? 'In televison you have to have an original idea, doesn't have to be your original idea though!'

I can well imagine old Tezza saying that

The "it was all a dream, no wait, we've woken up now its all over, no wait, we're still dreaming!" has been done to death in sci-fi...

It's not so much the plot that matters but the journey you take while watching it

Which is a good thing, because from the trailer I thought we were going down the "Normal Again" (Buffy) or "Far Beyond the Stars" (Trek) "character wakes up and everything so far in the series has been dreamt, but the ending leaves it open to interpretation that the entire show is just inside the head of one character" type episode.

Which has also been done to death

Never done better IMO than in "An American Werewolf In London", and I'm sure that even that wasn't the first to do it.
Scared the sh*t out of me in the cinema at the time though!

Maybe..... but let's face it- every story's a rip off of another story - there is very little that is completely original and unique

What is it they say- there have only ever been seven basic stories in the world, though they can be told an infinite number of ways:

1. 'Tragedy'.
2. 'Comedy'.
3. 'Overcoming the Monster'.
4. 'Voyage and Return'.
5. 'Quest'.
6. 'Rags to Riches'.
7. 'Rebirth'.

So originality comes not from the basic plot but how the story's told

It's a popular sci fi concept, so no.

It's not a rip-off anymore, starting this series it's a homage Personally I think you can't get completely original ideas. Whether you like it or not we are all influenced by our experiences and may borrow something from the past. It's how it is used what matters to me, if there's some inspiration there, too.
