Cheap home cinema /AV amps?
spinaltap

Richer Sounds is selling an Eltax AVR200 Dolby Digital 5.1 amp for £60 if you bring in the advert from What Hifi magazine (£80 normally). They also have the Sony STR DE495 for £100.

Does anyone have any experience of either of these? They seem to have a similar spec, the main difference is that the Eltax doesn't have DTS. The Sony is cheap at a ton but if the Eltax is nearly as good then it's a steal at £60 ...

Thanks

The Eltax is ok, but for the small amount extra, the Sony is a much better buy. I looked at them both last month when I was buying a (cheap) a/v amp, but because of the size limitations I had, I went for the Pioneer they are selling for the same money as the Sony. Only 3 inputs, but that was enough for my needs, and it is extremely good. Even audio CD's sound good through it, though I was quite surprised to find no bass/treble controls..instead it uses 'modes'..fortunately, the 'modes' suit my tastes well!!
