KFC - halal only?
I've just read that a certain KFC serves ONLY halal meat. Has anyone found this? Is it right that people aren't given a choice?

I'd certainly advise anyone concerned about animal cruelty, to boycott any Halal only KFC outlets.

I did think about that, but is it true that there is such a thing?

My local KFC has become 'halal' and a lot of customers have caused an uproar about it. Certain things have had to change also (according to my friend that works there) such as the gravy for example, which I thought was the best thing about KFC.
Unfortunately I haven't tasted it yet so I don't know if it tastes any different. Apparently it doesn't though which I find is probably correct seeing as being halal should effect the flavour(?) |

I refuse to eat anywhere that serves Halal meat. I believe it is evil.

whoever, hey - I know that. I know that it is just raised and slaughtered differently but other people don't.
Some people that are fussy say that it tastes different (mainly because they know it's halal and think it will effect the taste) but others say it doesn't. A friend I know that works there says that since they have changed to halal they have had to change the ingredients to the gravy (apparently there is two different ways of making it - 1 step method and a 2 step method) I'm unsure which has changed but apparently one method of making the gravy has had to change due to it being halal, which has effected the taste. |

Given the record KFC has on animal cruelty, Halal is an improvement.

A lot of the meat I eat is Kosher so I'm just not bothered by KFC Halal.
Anyway I'm pretty sure I read that the Halal Food Authority allows electric stunning before slaughter, don't know if they actually use it but The laws of Kosher slaughter don't seem to allow for this. Not that I really understand the issues here. An animal has been slaughtered whatever way it was done I'm still gonna eat my KFC. |

I'm sure having your throat slit while you're fully conscious is horrible. But let's not worry about that, when it's so tasty. /sarcasm
![]() Anyway I'm with the vegetarians on this one I'm not convinced that the other methods, with the exception of gassing perhaps, are more humane if there is such a thing. But you gotta go with your ethics, if you feel the need to boycott then do so. Personally I'm still gonna buy Kosher and if my local KFC goes Halal I'm not really bothered. |

I don't think you can say that the Halal method is any better or worse. |

And most KFC's are franchises anyway so providing the branch owner has satisfied the terms of owning such a franchise, he or she could serve melted cheese poured out of a wellington boot if he or she wanted ..

No they're not! Apart from anything else, who goes to KFC for bacon or pork? Surely you go there for chicken?

Yeah, it always seems animal cruelty is seen as more of an issue when Muslims are concerned. I bet if Halal slaughter was just another secular method of slaughter, many (not all) of its most vehement opponents wouldn't give two tin shits as long as they got their dinner.

Don't be silly, cruelty is cruelty, whether religions are involved or not. I'm equally against Kosher meat for the same reason.
