To be honest, right up until they sung OTR, I was quite happy to see either of them win. But I do truly think that Sophie sung it so much better than Danielle. Danielle ruined the song for me, especially by not giving the power and emotion needed specifically at the end of the song. My daughter will be happy though, she wanted Danielle to win. While I did promise I would take her to see the show, I have told my husband he can do it, cos I refuse to sit through the show knowing she couldn't sing the song well enough even if she has had months to rehearse beforehand!

I don;t think they picked the wrong one. They may have picked the wrong one for YOU but for the majority of people it was the right choice. I am a Sophie fan and would have loved her to win but there is no denying Danielle is very talented and will be amazing as Dorothy! Im very upset for Sophie but I'm sure there are big things ahead of her Well done to Danielle she won the role in her own right

I think it's the other way round. I don't enjoy Danielle's tone and tonight I found it quite nasally. Toward the end she was singing like Jenny used to! Sophie has a lovely tone to her voice and I could listen to it forever. Yes, she can lose her breath at times and wobbles during a note, but I'm in awe of her voice whenever she sings. Danielle won, and I'm happy for her so don't shoot me down for stating my opinion!

This is my first week watching and I thought danielle was the best once Lauren went out. Sophie is great but I would see her as second to danielle for this particular part.

no seriously everyone prefers different things. I prefered Danielle's voice. I thought it was brilliant in over the rainbow. I found Sophie's just ok.

The title of the thread is silly. You can only pick the person you like as an individual so it can never be wrong. If the combined totald favour one person it diesn't mean it's wrong at all. It could only be wrong if they liked one but for some reason voted for the other instead.

Surely the public chose the Dorothy that they wanted and therefore can't be wrong? Personal preferences are one thing but to say millions of people are wrong is quite another.

Re. Over the Rainbow, both were good but flawed performances whilst I think Sophie was stronger on the last notes than Danielle (but to say Dan couldn't hit the the last note is plainly false as she clearly could and did*), but Sophie had problems with her breath control in the middle. Personally I couldn't choose between them, vocally.

*I'm ignoring Danielle's performance after she won, when she did completely fluff the last note, but lets be honest she was probably too busy freaking out about winning to be thinking about the singing anyway.

I think she has a fantastic voice, but I genuinely cannot remember any of her past performances. She just doesn't have stage presence IMO.

Congratulations to her though, it was a very close final IMO. And I didn't think there was a very clear winner from the start of the show (for me at least, compared to the other shows where I had someone who I saw as 'my' winner..coincidently the contestant who won), so she did very well. I wish her all the best, I'm sure she has a fantastic career ahead of her.

I'm glad Danielle won! Out of her and Sophie Danielle is more consistent, a better actress, can do subtle as well as big, can dance and move round the stage with ease and cope with pressure too. Congratulations Danielle I'm sure you'll make an endearing and fantastic Dorothy!

I suppose ALW got it wrong as well when he saved Danielle twice oh and incidentally he saved Sophie once and Lauren three times so what does that say about how close the competition was?

Whoever had won tonight some people wouldn't have been happy. Danielle might not have the best voice of all the girls but she has more stage presence than Sophie and anyone who has watched the shows in recent weeks will have seen her show the emotion required in terms of her acting ability.

Sophie improved through the competition but she had too much to do to get more votes than Danielle. Danielle didn't have to prove anything in terms of improvement she stayed at the same level throughout and is less of a risk than Sophie.

For me I think it was one of the tightest finals in my mind in that I honestly got to a point where I would be happy if either won and I usually have very strong favourites in finals. Danielle has actually been my fave throughout the show and Sophie grew on me more and more to the point that I honestly wouldn't have minded who won.

So happy for Danielle, but I love Sophie alot aswell.

All the winners have struggled with singing the song after they've won. Its just an emotional time. I think she'll be a good Dorothy, and have thought so since about week 2, though I thought she was too quiet when not performing to get people to vote for her. Have I been influenced by Andrew, no not really! Mind you I didn't vote for her. Didn't vote at all, for anybody...lol

Lol exactly. I'd be hyperventilating if I'd won. I remember Lee's final song was very underwhelming too but it's completely unrepresentative of how good the winners actually are.

Danielle does some things better. Sophie I thought was better on the night as Dorothy and had more wow factor in her vocal and I gave her my vote. I think Sophie would be able to do anything she can't do now after 8 months plus of training.

I think that opens up all sorts of other cans of worms though.

Danielle won't be Danielle in 8 months either so she may be fine too .

Lauren produced the best vocal and looks the most useable - yet somehow she wasn't deemed to be Dorothy because she was too old - when most recent Dorothies have been 21-24.

Sophie had a big breakthrough but so might have Jessica, Jenny, Steph , Stephanie, Bronte if they had stayed. Any problems they had could be fixed in the time available too.

The public vote was all over the place. I didn't see any reason why Danielle should move ahead on her final performance or why she and others ended up in the bottom two on good ones. Its pretty meaningless having a public vote if top and bottom swap positions week on week just with different songs. Much of it was about VTs and song choices made for some reason by someone else - rather than singing , acting or being suitable for the role.

Net result - there's a winner but there's also not much reason why probably 7 other people couldn't have played the role as well or better or differently.

Surely the Wizard of Oz requires far more from the lead role than the ability to sing OTR perfectly??

I think you have to do an amazing OTR though. But by March 2011 Danielle will.

I'd say 10, possibly 11 could do it.

Agreed......... Danielle has never been my favourites, IMO there was at least 3 other girls (including Sophie) who would have made me want to see the the stage show, Danielle is one of those people I see winning a reality shows then I quickly forget about them.
