I'm sure that wasn't the complete end of it - I expect he or at the very least some of the panellists would have spoken to her after the show went off the air. Just because you don't see it on screen...

It was quite dismissive wasn't it. As runner up she has done very well but maybe ALW doesn't want her to be the understudy. I don't know.

I agree with you and, I wanted Danielle to win. I think it was sad that Sophie was ignored after the winner was announced.

I imagine they've rehearsed all of the various combinations and she just forgot that she needed to wait for Graham to send her off to her family - although from what I remember the runner up only gets a bit of a "well done, now go and join your family".

Completely agree that coming 3rd is probably better in terms of exposure - always the same with programmes like this.

I wonder whether there was also an element of Sophie not entirely believing she'd make the top 2 so not paying attention so much to that bit of the rehearsal! I am left with very mixed feelings from last night. Lauren was my favourite by a mile but after last night's shows I was left feeling the role of Dorothy isn't enough for her as actually it's quite a simple one. I much preferred Sophie to Danielle though as I just didn't see this amazing actress that so many did - found her quite awkward and emotionless to watch. Sophie was a little rougher round the edges but would have liked to see her win out of the final 2.

It happens on most programmes I think, the runner up normally gets like a sentence or something. But I agree with those saying it was Danielle's moment, I don't think most of you would have been complaining had Sophie won and Danielle not get to say anything.

Hi, don't wish to annoy anyone on this beautifully sunny morning but it wasn't dismissive, Graham did try to have a word with her but she ran to her family, not surprising she's only 17 and probably did not want to talk to anyone else. In all honesty if your favourite had won you probably wouldn't have posted thus. Sitting on the moon and singing OTR means you have lost out [sadly], this is certainly not the case with Sophie.

I always do feel sory for the person who goes out last because they never do get the chance to have a proper farewell. I will say though that despite all the talk this series about the girls being too young, too emotional etc, I thought both Sophie and Danielle behaved very professionally last night. I aso remember watching the IDA final and knowing at that final announcement that whoever got it, the other one was going to be devestated (which is of course what happened, with Jessie quite understandably breaking down in tears). I think Sophie was more like Sam from IDA to be honest- had no real idea how she'd come so far, was just beginning to think she really could do it, but ultimately wasn't all that shocked that someone else had won the role. It looked to me as though she really just wanted to go off and be with her family, leaving Danielle her moment in the spotlight.

I do think it's an awkward thing though. I mean, Danielle was pretty reserved as winners go and even she was practically disappearing off the bottom of the camera shot, can you imagine if they had tried to talk to Jessie two years ago, while she was going to pieces and Jodie was high as a sky rocket by her side? I imagine Sophie and Danielle would have coped better but it still would have been pretty awkward because it would still be obvious that really they were only trying to get the runner-up bit out of the way so they could get onto the more important business of crowing the winner. I suppose I just don't think there's a good way of sending the runner up off, unless they send the winner offstage to change costume for the finale or something.

I agree that second-placers always seem to get a raw deal in (so-called) reality TV.

Sophie did get to sing her own version of OTR and a reprise of Reflection in addition so I don't think she missed out by not being on the moon.

I think the logic of it would be sitting on the moon and being flown away meant you were leaving the competition but the competition at that point was over so she wasn't leaving it.

I got the impression Graham tried to call her back to do whatever they'd rehearsed and then the produced told him to let her go - probably because of the time factor.

She got a huge round of applause from us in the audience after camera stopped rolling. ALW went and gave her a hug too

I don't agree with what is being said. What they usually do with the final two on any show is show their 'best bits' before the announcement so that they both get that part of the exposure ahead of the final announcement. Once the final announcement is made then it is always about the winner and not about the runner up so no surprise at all.

All the panel and ALW said lovely things about Sophie before the announcement - I am sure they all talked about her having a career in showbiz.

That's hardly the point - a lot of people will have wanted to hear from Sophie, whichever girl was their favourite. I would have loved to hear from her after coming runner up, but I do realise that she ran off to her family and as Graham tried to pull her back he thought better of it and let her speak to her family.

I think a lot of people on this forum forget Sophie's age - 17 - and while Danielle managed to say the expected soundbites always in front of camera, Sophie was always more natural.

She gave Danielle a warm and heartfelt congratulations, then probably totally forgot what to do next. Finding her family was a totally natural reaction, and thus she avoided having to hide any tears of disappointment from the camera.

I think the role of Dorothy is perfect for Danielle, but Sophie needs something a bit more glamourous, a bit more soulful to launch her into stardom. She also needs a couple of years in stage school (and perhaps to finish all school exams) so that she can go on with full confidence and acquired acting experience. I am pretty sure she will have an agent by now.

Anyway, many competition winners do better as runners up and coming third or fourth; Just look at Lemarr (first Fame Academy, a competition that had to be wound up because both winners misused their first prizes) and also James Fox.

Sophie Evans will have her day - and she didn't spoil Danielle's.

The girls' dream was shattered live on TV infront of millions after coming so close to achieving it. Her initial reaction was to find comfort in her family and give Danielle her moment.
