Absolutely, The "Skipinder the punjabi kangaroo" sketch from goodness gracious me, which she wrote, is side splittingly funny

National treaure may be excessive, but I'm liking her performance a lot here.

I don't watch much TV and I'm so glad I don't, it means I hardly know of all these 'famous' people from soaps and such who show up unless they've been around a while. I've only seen Meera Syal in some comedy programme which I thought was awful - though comedy is subjective anyway. I've heard of her but wasn't impressed by her showing on Who, which to me is what matters.

Despite overuse of the term, several "national treasures" have appeared in Who. Overall it is a long list, but since 2005:

William Shakespeare
The Koh-i-noor diamond
debatably, but way more so than any actor:
Winston Churchill
Agatha Christie

Although of course back in City of the Dead there are SEVEN instances of a single NT!

I thought Meera Syal was rather good actually. I quite like the character, and thought she brought nice strength and maturity to it.

I've always had a soft spot for Meera Syal. Her comedy work is very good (Goodness Gracious Me is the obvious one, but she's outstanding in the lovely Beautiful Thing: "BALLS, MISTER BENNETT!"). If a new Carry On film were to happen, Meera Syal would be dream casting as Matron.

the amount of negative comments about her!!! seeeesh :O she was fantastic and exactly how i wanted her to be, in fact i wanted her to be more mad to be honest! she bought with her a comic appeal and was so glad that she was on the show. i love some of her comedy stuff (Kumars and Beautiful People to name a couple!) and she did have so much appeal in the episode, she was great!

looking forward to next weeks!

Yes, on relection I regret using the words 'National Treasure'. I suppose the likes of David Jason lay claim to that kind of praise.

The only problem with this forum is people hang off your every word. No matter how much you try to use your words carefully someone picks at you and try to hammer you to death. A bit too harsh at time...

Anyway, I think Meera is very talented none-the-less and has a lot of presence. It's only an opinion that's all. It would seem it's about 60% against her and 40% for... fair enough...

This sketch that she wrote is class...
