Cat fur coat
Biffo the Bear

I was thinking earlier on - my little cat generates an absolute shed load of fur. Luckily, she likes being brushed though, so I generally manage to keep the indoor fur situation under control.

However, when I was brushing her earlier on, I was wondering about how much of her fur I'd have to collect in order to send it to be woven into a nice warm coat? Cats always seem lovely and warm in the winter; it'd be interesting to see. Has anyone ever heard of anyone doing this sort of thing?

And no, let's not talk about cruelty to cats please - I think we all know about the barbaric catskin trade in certain countries - I certainly would never wear a coat made like that!

Oh you star, that's precisely the sort of info I'm after! Nice one!

edit - this is great from the "vipyarn" website =

Quote:
“Yarn spun from a double coated pet is up to 80% warmer than wool. The hairs making up the undercoat of most double-coated pets have a hollow core. These tiny hairs act like little insulators, absorbing and trapping the pet's body heat. When spun, these hairs do not lose their insulating properties and will continue to perform their natural task by absorbing and trapping your body heat. It is the reason in which we do not recommend making an entire sweater from your keepsake yarn. It simply would be too warm to wear.”
