Dontcha just love it when they manage to get poo stuck to their bottoms ! Just had a smelly time with Duncan must get the clippers out when he is dry and sort his bottom hair out !

No advice sought just thought I would share my smelly time with you all

One of my dogs is nervous by nature, (and her non-habituation, under socialised upbringing before I had her), and also has long (about 6 inches) silky "skirts" on the back of her back legs.

Not a good combination with her digestion and so rear end often being affected by anything that makes her nervous so I sometimes plait her skirts.

That keeps the hair out of the way when her tummy is upset but maintains her beautiful glamour when unplaited when she is feeling ok

That's a good idea - not sure Duncan will stand still for plaiting though, quick whizz with the clippers takes care of it for him. We usually keep him fairly close clipped all over as he is a master at getting himself caught up in brambles or rolling in fox poo and a short coat makes it easier to dry him off.

I over did Murphy's sanitary cut last Sunday

It now resembles a baboon's behind

It was his fault!! He descided he'd had enough clipping and would only let me carry on if he could lie down with his head in my lap. So I had an awkward angle and no clear line of sight.

Still, no 'clingons' for months to come

I literally laughed out loud at that description

My springer has long bum hair, but he hasnt had any accidents. When out walking he poo's for England, and the hair gets a little stained ... but one quick jump in the river and he is all clean again

I hope it's not bright red too!

Thankfully I've never experienced this with my last dog, a long haired Border Collie, or my current deerhoundy hair type lurcher. I have, however, given my fluffy arsed cat a Brazilian due to dangleberry issues.

I have a pedigree lakeland but I believe that there is some teddy bear in his genes
he gets poo bum where it gets stuck and you have to help - yeuch
howevever he was treated to a short all over clip for the warm weather and his 'sanitary trim' was eye wateringly short - you now have no doubt when his thoughts turn to 'toilet'
can't wait for it to grow
