I recently started listening to 60s music like The beatles Beach boys etc...

I particularly like the Mamas and Papas...the harmonies are amazing.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any other bands from that era with a similar sound to them.

Thanks

If its harmonies you're after, you might want to check out The Byrds.

Are you kidding me...never knew that.

It would be cool if Cass Elliots daughter inherited her mothers voice and released some music.

Not quite accurate - her father was neither John Phillips nor Denny Doherty, but rather a drummer who used to play with the M&P.

Try Spanky & Our Gang, or The Cowsills. If you've got Spotify, pretty much everything Spanky recorded is available.

The Association are worth checking out. All their songs are pretty good, but I particularly like "Along Comes Mary", "Pandora's Golden Heebie Jeebies" and especially "Cherish".

Excellent call.

Try early 5th Dimension too - first two albums, when Jimmy Webb was writing for them. Kinda like the M&P with a tan.

Not quite the same thing, but John Phillips' daughter Chynna formed a group with Brian Wilson's two daughters, Carnie & Wendy back in the 90s - Wilson Phillips.

Some fantastic choices there - all excellent acts.

The song by Love that you've provided a link to, namely "Alone Again Or" has to be one of most exquisite tracks I have ever heard. However, it and "Andmoreagain" are imo the only decent tracks on "Forever Changes", which I consider to be a ridiculously overated album. The preceding album "Da Capo" is imo far superior and definitely worth a listen.

Both perhaps a little more towards the garage-y end of the spectrum, but well worth a listen.

Yes, I find the album more or less unlistenable to, now, but 'Alone Again Or' can almost induce a trance-like state!

The Young Rascals (bandname later changed to just The Rascals) were imo one of the better American pop bands of the period. Their output is actually quite varied, but Groovin' has some great harmonies, if that's what your specifically looking for.

I have to agree, a fantastic track. Dusty Springfield's cover is another great version. However, afaic the less said about the 1972 cover by David Cassidy (which actually topped the UK singles chart) the better!

Without a doubt the best British Band for harmonies. They had the joy of having three vocalists in Clarke, Nash & Hicks who could have held the main post. the harmony on Bus Stop does it for me - and one of the best British pop records of all time.

They slightly lost the uniqueness when Nash departed and Terry Sylvester came in but they were still great. Check out their version of Bruce Springsteen's Sandy for the post Nash band. The whole song is almost in harmony
