Muse, Wembley Stadium, Sep 11th
I'm off to see Muse in september and was just wondering if they're any good. I'm ashamed to say I don't actually know any of their songs.

Short answer: Yes, they're good.
Medium answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8KQmps-Sog Yes, they're good. Long answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8WP7aOD_9Q Yes, they're good. Muse are incredibly good showmen. You might be familiar with Supermassive Black Hole, Map of the Problematique or Undisclosed Desires, which are all over the place, or possibly Time is Running Out or Plug-In Baby. They're a very strange band, but crucially very different, which is a bit refreshing given the amount of indistinct, interchangable bollocks out there. They swerve wildly between futuristic pop songs and arena rock on their most recent releases, and reliably put out stellar music every three years. If you like diverse rock with a bit of substance, you'll fall head over heels in love with Muse. Jaunty, anthemic, clever, and there's a little paranoid undercurrent which underlines it all with a trace of acid and edge. |

They are amazing live, if you get the chance have a lookie here for footage from their last Wembers gig http://muse.mu/media-player/albums/4/haarp/
I'm going on the 12th and I've got rubbish seats at the back but I don't care! They have some quite varied stuff, like the Twilighty crud they are currently spewing out, or the amazing rockier 'classics' like Stockholm Syndrome and Plug in Baby. Matt Bellamy isn't a frontman in your Tom Kasabian or Ricky Kaiser Chiefs sense, but he, and the rest of the band, are amazing musicians. Their light and laser shows are pretty out of this world too. I'm seeing them in Milan in a couple of weeks so I shall report back to you

Not as good as they used to be in my opinion, but still one of our best. I'm going to Wembley to, rather looking forward to it. Check out Origin or Absolution; their best albums. You'll probably end up recognising some of their stuff anyway, as a lot of it's used on sports coverage/docus etc.

Ah, I'm going on the 10th. I thought it was 11th, but I am mistaken. It's my first time seeing them live, but I've watched a ton of live videos and they are bloody fantastic.
I'd suggest listening to these ones first, they may be familiar as some are very recent, and some classics, some that you will have heard, covers: Plug In Baby New Born (not the full version) Feeling Good Time Is Running Out Supermassive Black Hole Starlight Map of the Problematique Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You Uprising Resistance United States of Eurasia Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) I doubt they will play NSC live though. But you might have heard it recently. Just get you familiar with Matt's vocals. |

Sadly, I think they will be playing NSC live. They did so last night at the intimate French gig, along with I Belong To You and Bliss (pleased these two are finally being played). Shame about NSC, it's pure rubbish.

I don't mind NSC. It's not their best, but it could be worse. Be thankful they didn't go down the whole "Ooh baby, ooh, let me f**k you like a dog on heat, whooooooo" kind of song to get popular. They probably did NSC last night cos it's popular right now. Come September - like Twilight - it shall be forgotten, and it'll be back to good old Muse (and Harry Potter, in Twilight's case. GAAAHHH! It's in November!) |

Yes, they are very good, HOWEVER, you will probably get flamed for not knowing any of thier songs as Muse fans are well known for being erm....obsessed to a whole new level of strangeness.
(I wish I could go in September btw) |

![]() I dont think it would be that bad tbh. The worst thing would be to say that your favourite songs are SMBH, NSC and Starlight |

There was a poll I saw last year where Muse fans came only second to MJ fans with the most obsessed, strange and fanatical fans.
That doesnt bode well for me who is a fan of both... Though Muse fans REALLY dont take well to any kind of critism to Matt or the band, particually on the fan forums, which are just plain odd IMO. Like a cult of something,. |

I frequent the forum quite a lot, and there's some die hard fans who won't take criticism, but the majority of people recognise that something's gone wrong with them lately, and accept they've got a little bit shit
(imo of course). There's more criticism of them now than ever.Too many bands churn out repeat album after repeat album and it's good to see a successful band exploring what they can do musically. I'll be there on 11th September too, btw - you'll really enjoy a great show if nothing else!!! |

I don't think NSC is as bad as everyone is making out. I don't think the twilight association helps though.
I'll be at the gig on september 11th. I hope they play Bliss-I've only been to one Muse gig (also at wembley) and they didn't play it then. |

I would say nothing has "gone wrong with them", and no, I'm not an obsessed die-hard Muse fan. But they are very much a prog rock band, Matt has said as much, and they are doing what all good prog bands do - pushing the boundaries of what they can do.

I'll be there on 11th September too, btw - you'll really enjoy a great show if nothing else!!! You tend to get some fans who get into a certain album, then say they have gone shit when thier next album does not sound exactly the same - it's the same with Radiohead. Anyway, I don't think you will be dissapointed seeing them live. I saw then the last time they played at Wembley and they do put on a fantastic show. I think they are the best live band around at the moment. |

Totally agree with that.

They're not a prog rock band either, that would be the music press labelling them 'prog' or what they class as modern prog, when they really aren't.

I will be crossing my fingers that they do

They are a brilliant band live, one of the very best. My gripe is their setlists are so predictable ( 8-9 tracks of new album, followed by greatest hits and unintended). They don't explore their brilliant back catalogue which is why I won't be seeing them live anymore.

NSC did actually sound almost half decent Highlight for me was Nic from Jet doing Back in Black. As for the stage design, if anyone has ever been to the fish place in Hull, The Deep, then it looks a bit like that! |
