asked orange about their "unlimited" (500/750mb fup) internet
Well after seeing my desire using data since installing 3g watchdog i thought i best call Orange and find out more about their internet FUP. Panther customers have 750mb, and Dolphin customers have 500mb. Bearing in mind this conversation was with normal customer services, not retentions..
Me - Hi can you tell me what internet useage allowance i have please? Agent - You have unlimited internet Me - Is there a fair useage policy, i heard it's 750mb and i use a lot of data Agent - You have an unlimited internet bundle with a cap of 750mb Me - So the unlimited internet is limited to 750mb then Agent - No, it's unlimited, with a limit of 750mb. (how contradictory) Me - How is it unlimited and why is it called unlimited? Agent - We can call it unlimited though because nobody ever goes over the limit. Me - What happens if i go over the 750mb? Agent - Nobody EVER goes over the limit. So i try a different approach... Me - But in theory, if one was to go over the limit, what would happen? Agent - You will be charged 60p a megabyte. I'll give you free sky news and sport for one month. Basically it sounds like their agents are a little confused about it all, so be warned if you have a low FUP. |

As far as I am aware the 500MB is a hard cap. The unlimited is a 750 MB FUP. I quite often go over the FUP and have never been charged. I think that if you started using loads of GB every month then they would contact you.

The unlimited bundle does indeed have an FUP of 750mb, as the previous poster described. If you went over you wouldn't be charged.

Just to clarify -
The 500MB package offered either as a bolt-on, or as part of the new Dolphin Plans (April 2010 onwards) is a hard cap. If you go over, you will be charged 60p PER DAY for data use. The 750MB Unlimited plan as part of the new Panther Plans (April 2010 onwards) is a Fair Use Policy. If you go over, you won't be charged, however if you take the mick and hammer it well over the FUP, you'll get a text warning, and if usage continues at that level, they reserve the right to slow the connection down for 7-10 days (essentially disabling HSDPA from the account) but you won't be charged any more. Hope that clarifies matters. |

Orange CS are just riddiculas!! they really dont seemed trained well at all.
I remember having exactly the same conversation as you had and then i went over my "unlimited" internet usage very easily and i got a text telling me that they were slowing my 3g down until my next billing date (not that i noticed the difference since it's always slow anyway!!) I'm on the "unlimited" deal which has a fup of 750m

I've been back and forth with this.
Orange retentions have told me that the unlimited internet is 500mb and a hard cap of a pound a meg thereafter (a pound! - thats 500 quid if you leave youtube running). They have also told me today that the unlimited internet is 500mb and has a soft limit, but no one ever goes over it. If you do you get a letter, than another letter, then they charge you. I said to the girl your website specifically states 750mb for the "unlimited" bundle, and she said that was just for the iphone. As their website contradicts itself constantly and neither they, their customers, their agents or anyone else appears to understand it, I decided to give a go and ordered an HTC desire today. I will have it for 7 days while I decide if I like it so I'll keep an eye on the usage. If it seems the allowance is too small then its going back and I'll try vodafone or t-mobile. |
