Complete albums during concerts
What does everyone else think of an act playing an album in its entirity during a gig? Springsteen was doing this during some of last years shows,Rush will be playing Moving Pictures in its entirity on their forthcoming tour and there is talk in one of the other threads of Bon Jovi maybe doing the same. On the one hand people get to hear some of an acts lesser-known songs, but on the other die-hard and long-term fans will know what song is coming next. Just wondered what people thought.

Chemical Brothers played the whole of their forthcoming album, Further, last week at the Roundhouse.
It was spectacular. Usually that sort of thing would send people to the bar en masse, but the full on techno assault kept them on the floor. |

I think it's rather a nice thing to do. Some of the songs may not have been aired for years in a concert setting so getting to hear them live is a wonderful treat. The Springsteen thing is even better as a lot of the earlier material hasn't been heard for a while.

Nothing new - I recall Yes doing exactly that back in 1973/4 with Tales From Topographic Oceans - a double album (and they were rubbish, btw) while of late Brian Wilson has performed Pet Sounds and That Lucky Old Sun, and The Zombies did Odessey & Oracle. The fans and critics usually love it.

Marillion (Misplaced Childhood) and IQ (Subterranea) have done it. And I've seen both live performed. I loved it.

Sparks not only did that but they did one night for every album they released, in chronological order! That was around 20 nights back to back!
![]() Read some stuff here... http://www.getreadytorock.com/rock_s...ssell_mael.htm Gary Numan has also done this for one or two of his early albums. |

Dream Theater have done it a few times with there albums. When they played at Newcastle City Hall they played the Images and Words album. Iron Maiden have also did it with their last album.

A lot of bands are doing it these days, especially at ATP events. I'm in two minds- watching GZA do Liquid Swords was ace; likewise with Fantomas doing The Director's Cut. But part of me misses that excitement of hoping they'll play your favourite song. I kind of like how Killing Joke did it last year- they did (I didn't make it, unfortunately) the Pandaemonium album straight through and then a whole bunch of other stuff afterwards.
