the next 6 submissions will all be one artist for each! with more to follow as we plough through the 'c's'.

I have a budget reissue of the first Chantays LP, which is excellent. Unusually for instrumental groups of the day, they composed most of their own material.

They started out on the folk circuit, kind of like the early Staple Singers.

Their utter masterpiece was Maybe from 1956, one of the greatest girl group records of any era.

I

"Sabre Dance" actually made the top five, but to be fair to marlman it doesn't get a lot of plays today (unfortunately) so it doesn't really seem that out of place on this thread.
You need to hear the LP version, it's about 12 minutes long.

i have to say... i HATE duke of earl? wtf is a duke of earl? it makes absolutely no sense and sounds like someone doesnt understand british heirarchy.
.
He's the Duke of a part of the world called Earl, how is that hard to understand! Just like the Duke of Burgundy, Duke of York etc etc.

Absolutely the greatest of all of the 60s southern soul singers, even better than Percy Sledge and far better than Otis Redding.

Sorry for monopolizing the conversation rather recently, just discovered this thread on a boring late Friday afternoon at work. I'll have to check out some of these links later this evening.

Your computer may have been infected with adware, which is not malicious like a virus, but it is a bl**dy nuisance! It only affects certain sites - Digitalspy, unfortunately, being one of them.

I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago, and checked online how to get rid of it. I don't remember what I did exactly, but I did get rid of it.

The problem is resolvable, so I urge you to try - after, all you're only at the letter "C".

If you've only just discovered this site and you have the spare time, then check out all 104 pages, not just the latest posts. Every single page has one or more rare gems to savour.

im trying, yep its adware ..ive uninstalled a couple of programmes and scanned. but still got probs on this site only. takes ages to even post this, so trying to post links will be horrendous as i keep losing it. trouble is, im not pc literate, but when ive sorted it i intend to carry on, there might be a break though.

Here's a couple of my faves, seemingly not discovered yet on this thread.

My daddy walked in darkness - Gil Bateman. As far as anyone knows, literally the only record this guy ever made.

It's cold outside - The Choir. These guys eventually mutated into the Raspberries, with Eric Carmen as the lead singer.

Copperfields - The Dillards. Utterly gorgeous country/folk rock

Splendour in the grass - Jackie deShannon backed by the 1966 Byrds incarnation.

I really like that track ^ - some great guitar on it. Its tune resembles "House Of The Rising Sun", as does the tune of this one:-

Love - Signed D.C. (1966)
