I was quoting the serial numbers on the label pix in the link. If you're lucky, the catalogue number on the record label would be r5325
a and r5325
b, but when they're left off, you can only go by the reference number some labels have given each song (can't remember what they're called). I thought they normally run in sequence, so usually the lowest number is the 'a' side.
Having said that - not scientific but I've just checked a pile, most of which don't have a ref number. Those that do all follow in sequence (ie s the higher number), but Thin Lizzy's 'Little darling'/'Buffalo girl' has no relation between the numbers (ZDR55230/50912)
As said though, the giveaway on the Ching single is the giant red 'a' on the 'My Hong Kong' side for dj identification, which leads to the thought that perhaps those numbers don't always work that way
