Del Shannon - Mary Jane (1964) I'm a big admirer of Del Shannon so it came as a bit of a surprise to discover that he'd had a Top Forty single that until very recently I was completely unfamiliar with. I heard Mary Jane for the first time about four days ago and liked it a great deal, but it's Del Shannon, so what's not to like? Here's yet another song with that title:- The Everly Brothers - Mary Jane (1967) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW8uRr5mzqk |

69 - hot buttered corn - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXq7qrOnV4A 69 - space daughter - no youtube vid The Cobs (this lot) is a Joe Gibbs Jamaican production (he's labelled under his real name JA Gibson). Led by Count Machuki (Winston Cooper), who was probably the first of the Jamaican djs - influencing the toasters and rap. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Matchuki. Gibbs' house band included Ansel Collins (of 'Double Barrel' fame - you can hear his keyboard style), Bobby Elli, Vin Gordon, Tommy McCook and Johnny "Dizzy" Moore. Both rare, but 'Space Daughter' doesn't even have a single mention on the usual catalogues. |

I love me a bit of Eddie Cochran. ![]() He was tragically killed in a motor accident in April 1960, some 14 months after we lost Buddy, so most of these are posthumous releases, but it's good to hear some great fifties music albeit on a sixties thread. |

"London's own Pearly Beat Kings" The Cockneys appeared on stage in flamboyant Pearly Kings & Queens costumes befitting a band from the capital city. There's a video on the link of their appearance in the movie 'Go-Go Beat' in full gear that's a laugh. And a little more info. Quote:
Cocktail Cabinet no info 67 - puppet on a string
Oh god, is that really supposed to be a Harold Wilson imitation. That's embarrasing. I hope that is 'control the pianist' at 1:40 ![]() It was produced by the writers of the Eurovision song too!! Supposedly played lots on Radio Caroline, but I don't recall it. Nobody knows anything else, but it was apparently popular in the 90s on the Mod scene because of the b side 'Breathalyser', which is a fine instrumental. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqO1ZG-HiLQ Quote:

Now that is a fine bit of slick American soul. The Geno Washington version was a hit and played loads. Nice find!!!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_%28the_Lover%29 Quote:
Coffee Set no info
There's an LP from 1968 called 'If we can choose' which looks very MOR, and a 1972 DJM album by Tony Mansell's Coffee Set called 'Easy to remember' with some old standards on it. According to Discogs they're also called the Tony Mansell Singers, so we can go here ... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3042035/
