well i have corrected a couple... i search for the apparent a side and the b side comes up which is the a side in reality.
i guess the thread will still work even if a very few wrong uns slip through...
this.
The thread is a grand thing. Perhaps you need to step back a bit and see what you've achieved,
Have a look at the viewed numbers for a start. There's 266,000 people read your thread. Thats; 260,00 people looking on Ds from somewhere or other. Let alone the net searches ...
on Google you bounce up near the top regularly.
They're led to a song, the information you provide is near the top of the list (actually most of the time it's the top as a recent search.

Now I do the subsidiary because I happen to know a bit, and at the moment have the time to augment
You provide a service. I might hep a bit, but you're the catalyist.
(I still wonder what we could have accomplished if I'd not wandered off).

You carry on. It's not for you to spend your life on inconseqentiatliites

cheers dave... i was too young in the 60's to appreciate the scene much, and havnt much of a deeper knowlege, since i started using the rc catalogue it was always meant to be a skeletal frame on which others could add/discuss. ok, not many have and im grateful to those of you who have. its the page views which have kept me going, sometimes when theres seemingly no interest.

with all the increased advertising value generated youd think ds would slip me a few quid! lol.

sots soon... i get abit of a thrill when brian matthews plays a track ive mentioned on here, assuming i remember do so! (often its the act i remember or think 'i must have posted something by them)

DS should definitely slip you a few quid, and also some of the others who've contributed over the years (e.g. Barney, Vabosity, er me etc.), for making this the most interesting and original thread on the Music forum, and not just yet another harping on about Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry or whoever's currently flavour of the month, or yet another declaring that MJ is King or that Rihanna is the best singer evva, etc. etc. etc.

Del Shannon - Mary Jane (1964)
I'm a big admirer of Del Shannon so it came as a bit of a surprise to discover that he'd had a Top Forty single that until very recently I was completely unfamiliar with. I heard Mary Jane for the first time about four days ago and liked it a great deal, but it's Del Shannon, so what's not to like?
It seems there were lots of different songs called "Mary Jane" back in the sixties. She was obviously a very popular girl back then, or to be more precise, a very popular substance.

Here's yet another song with that title:-

The Everly Brothers - Mary Jane (1967)

Someone at the catalogue was thinking of an indie band when they put this one in (or following an incorrectly title web sales link). The Cobbs are from Pennsylvania and recorded a single of the same name, years later.
The Cobs (this lot) is a Joe Gibbs Jamaican production (he's labelled under his real name JA Gibson). Led by Count Machuki (Winston Cooper), who was probably the first of the Jamaican djs - influencing the toasters and rap. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Matchuki.
Gibbs' house band included Ansel Collins (of 'Double Barrel' fame - you can hear his keyboard style), Bobby Elli, Vin Gordon, Tommy McCook and Johnny "Dizzy" Moore.
Both rare, but 'Space Daughter' doesn't even have a single mention on the usual catalogues.

I love me a bit of Eddie Cochran.

He was tragically killed in a motor accident in April 1960, some 14 months after we lost Buddy, so most of these are posthumous releases, but it's good to hear some great fifties music albeit on a sixties thread.

"London's own Pearly Beat Kings"
The Cockneys appeared on stage in flamboyant Pearly Kings & Queens costumes befitting a band from the capital city.
There's a video on the link of their appearance in the movie 'Go-Go Beat' in full gear that's a laugh. And a little more info.

Cocktail Cabinet no info 67 - puppet on a string
Oh god, is that really supposed to be a Harold Wilson imitation. That's embarrasing. I hope that is 'control the pianist' at 1:40
It was produced by the writers of the Eurovision song too!!
Supposedly played lots on Radio Caroline, but I don't recall it.
Nobody knows anything else, but it was apparently popular in the 90s on the Mod scene because of the b side 'Breathalyser', which is a fine instrumental.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqO1ZG-HiLQ

C.O.D.s no info 66 - michael (the lover)
Now that is a fine bit of slick American soul. The Geno Washington version was a hit and played loads. Nice find!!!

Coffee Set no info
There's an LP from 1968 called 'If we can choose' which looks very MOR, and a 1972 DJM album by Tony Mansell's Coffee Set called 'Easy to remember' with some old standards on it. According to Discogs they're also called the Tony Mansell Singers, so we can go here ... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3042035/

Basic info:
The Coins are three, two girls and a boy. They all come from Jamaica. They are currently appearing in 'Hair' at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The rest is all puff.
Singer Ethel Coley died in June this year http://www.barnesandsons.co.uk/news/...restauranteur/

The Toast label didn't last long. It managed a couple of good singles though. Best known for their first release The Stockingtops 'You're never gonna get my lovin;' and Doris Troy's wonderful Dusty impersonation 'I'll do anything (he wants me to do)'

Probably in a minority , but I never liked his version of A little Help From My Friends , much preferred Delta Lady .

Cheating a bit here , from 1970 - Give Peace A Chance ( not the Lennon track ) .
