It's been eight days since the thread's fifth anniversary, eight days in which I have been trying to make a decision whether or not to do a Fifth Anniversary Review.

Let me explain.

When the thread was one year old I made several posts that I collectively termed as Vabosity's First Anniversary Review in which I repeated some of my favourite tracks previously submitted in the first year of the thread's existence.

Two years later I made several more posts that I collectively termed as Vabosity's Third Anniversary Review in which I repeated some of my favourite tracks previously submitted in the first three years of the thread's existence.

Another two years have passed so it follows that there should be a Fifth Anniversary Review. Eight days ago I was reluctant to go ahead with such a project, but since then I have well and truly changed my mind and Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will commence today.

In Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review I will be repeating 100 tracks (one track from each of the first 100 pages). There will be four tracks per post, so that's 25 posts in total.

The chosen tracks will meet the following criteria:-

1. I must like them a great deal.
2. They must not have previously been repeated in Vabosity's First Anniversary Review.
3. They must not have previously been repeated in Vabosity's Third Anniversary Review.
4. At least one of the four tracks in each post must have been originally submitted to the thread by a poster other than myself.

The first post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in about twenty minutes.

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #1.

Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 1 to 4 respectively.

Lorraine Ellison - Stay With Me Baby (1966)
Genre: Soul
Original thread page: 1
Date originally submitted: 29th May 2010.
Original poster: mushymanrob
Comments:
One of several sixties soul classics that failed to chart in the UK.

The Chob - We`re Pretty Quick (1966)
Genre: Garage Rock
Original thread page: 2
Date originally submitted: 29th May 2010.
Original poster: Randy Gibbons
Comments:
It’s pretty good as a matter of fact.

Tommy James and the Shondells - Hanky Panky (1966)
Genre: Pop Rock
Original thread page: 3
Date originally submitted: 1st June 2010.
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
This fine American band recorded some excellent singles, not least this one, so I can’t understand why Mony Mony was their only big UK hit.

Brook Benton - Hit Record (1962)
Genre: Pop
Original thread page: 4
Date originally submitted: 3rd June 2010.
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
The song’s lyrics are an instruction manual on how to make a hit record. The irony is that this was never a hit record.

The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in a few days.

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #2.

Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 5 to 8 respectively.

The Parade - Sunshine Girl (1967)
Genre: Sunshine Pop
Original thread page: 5
Date originally submitted: 4th June 2010.
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
Many years ago a work colleague told me that his all time favourite track was a very obscure ditty from the sixties entitled Sunshine Girl by an American group called the Parade. It certainly isn’t my favourite track of all time (far from it), but it’s pleasant enough, and well worth a listen.

Bobby Lewis - Tossin' and Turnin' (1961)
Genre: Rhythm ‘n’ Blues
Original thread page: 6
Date originally submitted: 10th June 2010.
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
This is a very good track indeed, but imho not a great one, so I’m a little baffled as to why it was one of the biggest selling singles of the entire decade in the USA, and I’m also a little baffled as to why it was completely ignored in the UK.

Freddie and the Dreamers - A Little You (1965)
Genre: Pop
Original thread page: 7
Date originally submitted: 13th June 2010.
Original poster: Capablanca
Comments:
Strictly speaking this is not a repeat, because when Capablanca mentioned this track in his post on Page 7 five years ago it wasn’t available on Youtube, so we couldn’t listen to it back then. In that post Capablanca opined that this was Freddie and the Dreamers’ best single. The track is now available on Youtube and having recently heard it for the very first time I tend to agree with Capablanca’s opinion. Please click on the above link, have a listen and see if you agree too.

Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera - Flames (1967)
Genre: Rock
Original thread page: 8
Date originally submitted: 17th June 2010.
Original poster: Capablanca
Comments:
Fine up tempo track by a band whose members would later become members of the Strawbs, Hudson Ford and Stretch.

The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in a few days.
