Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #8.

Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 29 to 32 respectively.

The Swingin’ Medallions - Double Shot of My Baby’s Love (1966)
Genre: Carolina Beach Music
Original thread page: 29
Date originally submitted: 6th January 2011.
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
I’m particularly fond of this track, although as there's nothing that special about it, I cannot honestly say why.

Classics IV - Stormy (1968)
Genre: Soft Rock
Original thread page: 30
Date originally submitted: 28th January 2011.
Original poster: Capablanca
Comments:
Santana, one of my favourite seventies bands, covered this fine song on their 1978 album Inner Secrets. I like both versions, but marginally prefer the original.

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich - You Make It Move (1965)
Genre: Pop
Original thread page: 31
Date originally submitted: 2nd February 2011.
Original poster: mushymanrob
Comments:
Peaking at #26, You Make It Move was the very first UK hit single for Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich. Many bigger hits were to follow, and between 1965 and 1969 they would spend more weeks in the UK Singles Chart than the Beatles.

Joe Jones - You Talk Too Much (1960)
Genre: Rhythm ‘n’ Blues
Original thread page: 32
Date originally submitted: 7th February 2011.
Original poster: Randy Gibbons
Comments:
The Wikipedia entry for this artist is quite interesting, especially with regard to his fraudulently claiming ownership of songs he didn’t write. Please click here to read that entry.

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #9.

Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 33 to 36 respectively.

The Monkees - You Told Me (1967)
Genre: Pop Rock
Original thread page: 33
Date originally submitted: 22nd February 2011
Original poster: Barney06
Comments:
A very Beatle-esque track from the Monkees; I like this a lot.

The Rolling Stones - The Spider and the Fly (1965)
Genre: Blues Rock
Original thread page: 34
Date originally submitted: 6th March 2011
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
The Rolling Stones, just like the Beatles and the Kinks, recorded some excellent B-sides which were imho often as good as and sometimes even better than their A-sides. This fabulous track was the B-side of Satisfaction.

The Grand Prees - Jungle Fever (1961)
Genre: Doo Wop
Original thread page: 35
Date originally submitted: 12th March 2011
Original poster: Randy Gibbons
Comments:
I love Doo-Wop music, and while this marvellous track undoubtedly falls into that category it’s completely different from any other Doo-Wop track that I’ve ever heard!

Billy Fury - Ain’t Nothin’ Shakin’ (1964)
Genre: Rock ‘n’ Roll
Original thread page: 36
Date originally submitted: 17th March 2011
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
Billy Fury is best known as a purveyor of cheesy ballads (and very good cheesy ballads they were too!), but he also knew how to rock, as this clip from Ready Steady Go clearly demonstrates.

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #10.

Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 37 to 40 respectively.

Judy Clay - Lonely People Do Foolish Things (1964)
Genre: Soul
Original thread page: 37
Date originally submitted: 28th March 2011
Original poster: Barney06
Comments:
Barney has certainly submitted some fine sixties Soul to the thread over the last five years, and this terrific track has got to be one of his better contributions.

Françoise Hardy - Suzanne (1968)
Genre: Folk
Original thread page: 38
Date originally submitted: 7th April 2011
Original poster: ohglobbits
Comments:
There have been several covers of this particular Leonard Cohen song. This one is a rather gorgeous French language version by a rather gorgeous French singer.

Jackie Edwards - Somebody Help Me (1965)
Genre: Rhythm ‘n’ Blues
Original thread page: 39
Date originally submitted: 14th April 2011
Original poster: Vabosity
Comments:
In 1966 the Spencer Davis Group had two UK chart-topping singles with songs written by the Jamaican artist Jackie Edwards, i.e. Keep On Running and Somebody Help Me. Here’s the composer’s own version of the latter.

Mongo Santamaria - Yeh Yeh (1963)
Genre: Latin Jazz
Original thread page: 40
Date originally submitted: 5th May 2011
Original poster: Barney06
Comments:
A (vocal) cover version by Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames famously topped the UK singles chart in 1965; this is Mongo Santamaria’s original (instrumental) version.

That’s ten posts of Vabosity’s Fifth Anniversary Review completed, with fifteen still to come. It seems like a good time to take a bit of a break, so it’ll be at least a week before next post in the Review. In the meantime please keep reading Rob’s posts and listening to all the good tracks he’s submitting in those posts.

It's been over a week since my last post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review, so I think it's about time I posted the next one (Post #11 of 25). That post will follow in about half an hour.

In the meantime here's a recap of what this Review is all about.

Another two years have passed so it follows that there should be a Fifth Anniversary Review.

In Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review I will be repeating 100 tracks (one track from each of the first 100 pages). There will be four tracks per post, so that's 25 posts in total.

The chosen tracks will meet the following criteria:-

1. I must like them a great deal.
2. They must not have previously been repeated in Vabosity's First Anniversary Review.
3. They must not have previously been repeated in Vabosity's Third Anniversary Review.
4. At least one of the four tracks in each post must have been originally submitted to the thread by a poster other than myself.

When I’m in the mood there’s no type of music I’d rather listen to than some of that good old Rock ‘n’ Roll. Well, I’m in the mood right now, so here is some of that good old Rock ‘n’ Roll.
