Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #12.
Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 45 to 48 respectively. Buddy Starcher - History Repeats Itself (1966) Genre: Country Original thread page: 45 Date originally submitted: 9th July 2011 Original poster: JohnnyForget Comments: There were some quite extraordinary coincidences between the assassination of US President Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and that of President John Kennedy in 1963. This fascinating track details those coincidences. Maureen Evans - The Big Hurt (1960) Genre: Pop Original thread page: 46 Date originally submitted: 17th July 2011 Original poster: laineythenomad Comments: This single by Welsh singer Maureen Evans peaked at a rather lowly #26 on the UK chart. It should have been a much bigger hit; she has a great voice and it’s a fine track. Dion - Daddy Rollin' In Your Arms (1968) Genre: Blues Rock Original thread page: 47 Date originally submitted: 5th August 2011 Original poster: Randy Gibbons Comments: In the late fifties and early sixties Dion (with and without the Belmonts) famously recorded many excellent Doo-wop tracks. In the late sixties he was recording very different styles of music, which, as this track clearly demonstrates, was just as excellent. Johnny Young - Craise Finton Kirk (1967) Genre: Pop Original thread page: 48 Date originally submitted: 25th August 2011 Original poster: mushymanrob Comments: Decent cover of a very good Bee Gees song. The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in two or three days. |

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #13.
Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 49 to 52 respectively. Eric Burdon and the Animals - Tobacco Road (1967) Genre: Blues Rock Original thread page: 49 Date originally submitted: 28th August 2011 Original poster: Gneiss Comments: Superb version of a song written and first recorded by John D. Loudermilk in 1960 that was a hit for the Nashville Teens in 1964. Procol Harum - A Salty Dog (1969) Genre: Progressive Rock Original thread page: 50 Date originally submitted: 21st September 2011 Original poster: JohnnyForget Comments: The title track from Procol Harum's third album, and also a non-charting single. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I like it a great deal. Susan Christie - I Love Onions (1966) Genre: Novelty Pop Original thread page: 51 Date originally submitted: 26th September 2011 Original poster: laineythenomad Comments: This may be a very silly song, but it’s impossible to dislike. Lavern Baker - Saved (1961) Genre: Rhythm ‘n’ Blues Original thread page: 52 Date originally submitted: 10th October 2011 Original poster: Randy Gibbons Comments: The great R ’n’ B artist Lavern Baker sings a song written by the great songwriting duo of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and the result is explosive. The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in two or three days. |

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #14.
Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 53 to 56 respectively. James Brown - Heartbreak (1968) Genre: Soul Original thread page: 53 Date originally submitted: 10th November 2011 Original poster: Randy Gibbons Comments: Fine cover of a song originally recorded by the fifties R ‘n’ B legend, Little Willie John. Ian Whitcomb - This Sporting Life (1965) Genre: Pop Original thread page: 54 Date originally submitted: 28th November 2011 Original poster: Vabosity Comments: I can't really put my finger on why I like this one so much. It just has that certain je ne sais quoi that I find appealing. Brenda Lee - Dum Dum (1961) Genre: Pop Original thread page: 55 Date originally submitted: 3rd January 2012 Original poster: Barney06 Comments: Whether she sings ballads or somewhat more up tempo songs like this one, the lady known as Little Miss Dynamite never disappoints. The New Wave - Not From You (1967) Genre: Pop Original thread page: 56 Date originally submitted: 6th January 2012 Original poster: Vabosity Comments: Gorgeous song. The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in two or three days. |

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #15.
Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 57 to 60 respectively. Herman's Hermits - Jezebel (1967) Genre: Pop Rock Original thread page: 57 Date originally submitted: 23rd February 2012 Original poster: Capablanca Comments: I don’t usually have a lot of time for Herman’s Hermits, but I have to confess that I’m more than a little impressed by their cover of Jezebel (original version by Frankie Laine in 1951; UK hit version by Marty Wilde in 1962). The Shangri-Las - I Can Never Go Home Anymore (1965) Genre: Pop Original thread page: 58 Date originally submitted: 2nd March 2012 Original poster: Vabosity Comments: I'm rather fond of the Shangri-Las, and this little known track is a particular favourite. The Yardbirds - Got To Hurry (1965) Genre: Blues Rock Original thread page: 59 Date originally submitted: 17th March 2012 Original poster: ohglobbits Comments: This very good instrumental, featuring Eric Clapton on lead guitar, was the B-side of For Your Love, the Yardbirds’ first hit single. Joe Henderson - Snap Your Fingers (1962) Genre: Soul Original thread page: 60 Date originally submitted: 1st April 2012 Original poster: Vabosity Comments: Love this one. What a great voice this guy’s got. The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in two or three days. |

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #16.
Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 61 to 64 respectively. The Doors - Take It As It Comes (1967) Genre: Psychedelic Rock Original thread page: 61 Date originally submitted: 11th April 2012 Original poster: JohnnyForget Comments: Taken from their eponymous debut album, this is hardly one of the Doors’ better known tracks, but it’s still quite excellent nonetheless. Carnaby - Jump And Dance (1965) Genre: Pop Rock Original thread page: 62 Date originally submitted: 14th May 2012 Original poster: Barney06 Comments: From the band’s name I can only assume that this lot may have been Mods. If they were, I don’t whether or not this particular track appealed to other Mods back in the day, but what I do know is that this particular track appeals to me right now. Jay and the Americans - Only In America (1963) Genre: Pop Original thread page: 63 Date originally submitted: 3rd June 2012 Original poster: Vabosity Comments: Jay and the Americans were one of several good American sixties groups who were completely ignored in the UK. Their music could be said to a little cheesy, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest as imho both their lead singers (initially Jay Traynor and later Jay Black) have two of the best voices in sixties pop music. Only In America was composed by the songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller (who also wrote Hound Dog) in collaboration with the songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil (who also wrote You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling). The facts relating to the song are fascinating. Well, I find them fascinating anyway. To read those facts please click here. The Remains - Why Do I Cry (1965) Genre: Garage Rock Original thread page: 64 Date originally submitted: 27th June 2012 Original poster: IFeelFree Comments: A very good track by a very good American band. The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in two or three days. |

Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #17.
Four tracks originally submitted to the thread on pages 65 to 68 respectively. Betty Everett - I Can’t Hear You No More (1964) Genre: Soul Original thread page: 65 Date originally submitted: 2nd July 2012 Original poster: IFeelFree Comments: Another one of those sixties soul classics that failed to chart in the UK; fabulous track! Arthur Alexander - The Girl That Radiates That Charm (1960) Genre: Rhythm ‘n’ Blues Original thread page: 66 Date originally submitted: 8th July 2012 Original poster: Vabosity Comments: Arthur Alexander wrote and recorded the original versions of Anna (famously covered by the Beatles) and You Better Move On (famously covered by the Stones). Here he is with a not so well known, but just as excellent song. Sun Dragon - Far Away Mountain (1968) Genre: Psychedelic Pop Original thread page: 67 Date originally submitted: 12th July 2012 Original poster: Capablanca Comments: An obscure British duo with an equally obscure track, that is imho utterly wonderful. Beacon Street Union - Blue Avenue (1968) Genre: Psychedelic Rock Original thread page: 68 Date originally submitted: 23rd July 2012 Original poster: IFeelFree Comments: Oh, I do like this one; terrific track! The next post in Vabosity's Fifth Anniversary Review will follow in two or three days. |
