A cover of The Bee Gees song To Love Somebody by The Chambers Brothers.
It might be sacrilege to some but I think this is a much better version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wJR3v1o60E Think it was a late 60's recording , a bit confused as to which thread to post on, so opted for this one. |

It’s hardly sacrilege that you prefer the Chamber Brothers version, it’s just your own personal taste. Afaic the only sacrilege with regard to the Bee Gees was committed by the band themselves, when they changed their style to Disco! My favourite Chamber Brothers track is called New Generation, which I can’t seem to find on Youtube, so here instead are three tracks that are not remotely like the Chamber Brothers. The Beach Boys - In My Room (1963) The Shades of Blue - Oh How Happy (1966) The Swingin’ Medallions - Double Shot of My Baby’s Love (1966) |

A mini Chambers Brothers thread , this time an original track , have been playing some of their other records and what a great band, vastly underrated.
I Can't Stand It, - The Chambers Brothers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuXvt...eature=related Could not find New Generation either. |

Here are three pairs of songs, with each pair consisting of an American original version followed by a British cover version. This is possibly a controversial statement, but in each case I think the British cover is the superior version. What do others think?
Arthur Alexander - Soldier of Love (1962) The Beatles - Soldier of Love (1963) Eddie Holland - Leaving Here (1963) The Birds - Leaving Here (1965) The Marvelettes – I’ll Keep On Holding On (1965) The Action - I’ll Keep On Holding On (1966) |

Leaving Here - I like each version equally, no preference. I'll Keep On Holding On - I prefer the version by the Marvellettes. |

Time to return to the "rare" stuff.
Let’s start with a Shadows-style instrumental band from Finland. The Strangers - Kolme Kitaraa (1963) Next, an excellent British cover version of a 1957 Elvis classic. Dave Berry - My Baby Left Me (1965) Finally, a track that is completely different from anything else this great band ever recorded. Cream - Wrapping Paper (1966) Ginger Baker's reaction to it's release http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmG_M...eature=related |

That Cream song has got to be the worse thing they ever did. Absolutely dire.
Ginger Baker's reaction to it's release http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmG_M...eature=related While "Wrapping Paper" is very untypical of the Cream sound and while it certainly is not in the same league as classics like "Sunshine Of Your Love and "White Room", it does have a certain unique charm of its own and I like it for that reason. |

I can't agree with you or Ginger Baker. IMO the worst things Cream ever recorded were overlong blues tracks like "Spoonful" and "Born Under A Bad Sign".

I like it - nice feel. I also get bored by the over long blues workouts. |

The following tracks were all very big hits, but have become lost in the mists of time.
Elvis Presley - Little Sister (1961) Elvis has had more UK Number One singles than any other act, and Little Sister was one of them, albeit as a double A-side with His Latest Flame. However, whereas His Latest Flame does get quite a few plays today on oldies radio stations, this is not the case for Little Sister, which could be said to have been retrospectively relegated to a B-side. A pity really, because it’s probably my favourite Elvis track of the sixties, and imho one of the very few from that decade that comes anywhere close to the classics he recorded in the mid-fifties. Gary U.S. Bonds - Quarter To Three (1961) Fantastic track, but one that was very quickly forgotten as this type of sound became dated overnight with the arrival of the Beat Boom. Bruce Springsteen’s enthusiasm for this track and this artist brought Gary U.S. Bonds back into the limelight in the early-eighties, but this unexpected renaissance of Bonds’ career was very short-lived and he soon returned to obscurity ... until now, of course, because here he is on The Rare 60’s Classics Thread! Bobby Darin - Multiplication (1961) Bobby Darin was a superlative artist, who recorded a multitude of superb tracks in a multitude of different styles. Unfortunately, the only Darin tracks that tend to get played today are his two Number One singles from the fifties, Dream Lover and Mack The Knife. Multiplication is a particular favourite of mine. A real forgotten gem with some rather clever lyrics. The Everly Brothers - The Price of Love (1965) The Everlys are fondly remembered for their beautiful harmonies on slow-ish songs. The Price of Love, being up-tempo, is not very typical of their sound, so tends to get neglected today, despite being one of their biggest ever hits in the UK. Roy C - Shotgun Wedding (1966) This made No. 6 in the UK singles charts when first released in 1966 and No. 8 in the UK singles charts when re-released in 1972, so it was obviously well regarded back in the day, a fact that makes it all the more baffling that the people who put together sixties compilations and the people who decide the playlists on oldies radio stations completely ignore it and have taken it upon themselves to consign a brilliant track to oblivion. |

tbh i never understood the appeal of 'shotgun wedding', imho there were many far better soul tracks by otis, wilson, sam n dave etc etc etc that never got anywhere but id regard as vastly superior to shotgun wedding.

I am embarrassed to admit that the list of cheesy songs that I have as guilty pleasures is a very long list
, and this one is probably my favourite cheesy guilty pleasure ever. Brian Hyland - Sealed With A Kiss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gliHl0xz5m4 |

Certainly a lesser well known Cilla record. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gEElJCVRfg Randy Newman who wrote the song says it's his all time cover of one of his songs. Dusty did a nice version too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUAmf...1&feature=fvwp |
