A UK hit for The Cryin Shames in 1966 which only got to number 26 in the charts , but as it still gets some airplay , another version by Zoot Money's Big Roll Band , think I prefer this version .

Please Stay - Zoot Money's Big Roll Band

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeNSu6Kerxk

Never released as a single in The UK early Marvin Gaye with Stubborn Kind of Fellow . One of his first recordings for Tamla & one of his best .

Seeing the one by Zoot Money made me think of the following;

Big Time Operator by Zoot Money's Big Roll Band. I think it is really good but it got nowhere.

whaterver happened to the tremeloes mid season? they had a few big beat hits in 63/4 then all but disappeared until 'here comes my baby' in 67.

well...

'twelve steps to love' #32 in aug 64
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRbjrPZm4YI
hmm.... not very good was it!

'three bells' #17 in late 64
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li0ZDAzarlg
oh dear... an awful cover of a poor song

'i want candy' #25 in jul 65
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJWKyW_f9kg
hmm... i prefer bow wow wows version. the track however has a chequered history
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Want_Candy

heres the original by the strangeloves that failed to chart here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6roiwPK3Ok

so it seems that brian poole was the weakest link! get rid of him, re-invent themselves as a pop group, then the well known hits came.

Nah! Not a fan of the late sixties "re-invented" Tremeloes, much prefer them as Brian Poole's backing group! With Brian at the helm they never recorded anything as downrigfht awful as "Even The Bad Times Are Good", "Suddenly You Love Me", "Hello World" or "Little Lady".

A couple of lovely jangly instrumentals from The Byrds.

The Byrds - You And Me (1965)

An outtake added on to a later reissue of Mr Tambourine Man.

The Byrds - Stranger In A Strange Land (1965)

I agree with this. I love Brian Poole and The Tremelos version of "Do You Love Me?" Couldn't stand most of the Tremelos songs such as "Silence Is Golden" with that awful high-pitched whine they had.

One from sometime girlfriend/protege of Lee Hazlewood, Suzi Jane Hokom. It certainly bears a similar stamp to his work with Nancy Sinatra, and no bad thing for that.

Suzi Jane Hokom - Need All The Help I Can Get (1966- I think)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XROaCsPO4RE

I had a feeling I'd already posted this, but a quick scan of the thread suggests not. Probably one of my "I must get round to doing that" moments.

The last of my Halloween-themed selections (probably!) features German couple Adam & Eve.

Adam & Eve - The Witch (1967)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVBjwmbM0hc

A cover of this track will appear on The Primitives comeback album of obscure female-fronted 60s covers in the New Year which I'm very much looking forward to. See? I don't JUST listen to old music!

Included the suggestion in a thread in General but it might be an idea to make a thread on here if we want action..

And related to that I suppose, what John Lennon described as Nina Simone's response to the Beatles' song Revolution

Nina Simone - Revolution

This might be a good thread to ask this. A mate played me a song by an obscure 60's band ages ago which I liked, however, I can't remember the song, or the bands name.

It was a short band name, possibly only 3 letters (in full, so it wasn't a The 3 letters band).

Any ideas?
I've only read the first page of the thread any no idea if you found the answer but MC5 immediately sprang to mind.

One from one of my favourite 60s acts, proto-punks The Sonics from Tacoma, Washington.

The Sonics - I'm Gong Home (1967)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfPantav3xQ

And continuing my look further into The Byrds album tracks and outtakes, here's a very un-Byrds sounding instrumental from Fifth Dimension.

The Byrds - Captain Soul (1966)

There's been no mention of Barbara, the true successor to Edith Piaf. (unlike Mireille Mathieu her pale imitation)
By way of introduction two songs from 1962 when she was at her melancholy best.

Dis, quand reviendras-tu

Tu ne te souviendras pas

This cover of a Brel classic is faster yet somehow more moving than the original

Ne me quitte pas

Lastly, a piece of avant-garde craziness that pre-dates Brigitte Fontaine's similar work by almost a decade

Liberté

In 1968 James Brown released a tribute album to his good friend, RnB singer Little Willie John who had died that year while in Washington State Penitentiary on a manslaughter charge.

Here's a couple of LWJ covers from that album; 'Thinking about Little Willie John... and a Few Nice Things', and one from the man himself.

James Brown - Heartbreak (1968)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZT0Lm6fxEs

James Brown - Talk To Me (1968)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkKkXe0WGjk

Little Willie John - I Need Someone (1966)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4l4rPG0od8

From the album 'Nineteen Sixty Six', recorded in that year while LWJ was out of jail on appeal, but not released until 2008.

Another sad story of another Might Have Been...
