Original sixties versions of songs that were hits for other artists in the seventies and eighties.
Alone Again Or by Love Opening (and imo by far the best) track on the 1968 album “Forever Changes”. Cover version was a minor UK hit for the Damned in 1987. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yVBMUXr4xo A Rockin’ Good Way by Brooke Benton and Dinah Washington A big hit in the USA in 1960. Failed to chart in the UK. Cover version by Shakin’ Stevens and Bonnie Tyler was a Top Five UK hit in 1984. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idzqX...eature=related David Watts by the Kinks Taken from the 1967 album “Something Else”. Cover version was a minor UK hit for the Jam in 1978. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhElCQLpCPo The Boy From New York City by the Ad Libs Big hit in the USA in 1965. Failed to chart in the UK. Cover version by the Darts was a Top Five UK hit in 1978. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6GdZ...aynext_from=ML The Lion Sleeps Tonight by the Tokens This got to No. 11 in the UK charts in 1961, so not really a minor hit, but not really a big hit either. Cover version by Tight Fit (imo not a patch on the Tokens’ version) topped the UK chart in 1982. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LBmUwi6mEo |

This thread seemed to be dying a slow death as the usual contributors, including myself, appeared to be a bit short of ideas.
Time to kick-start the thread with a bit of psychedelia from 1968. Omaha - Moby Grape |

Having just heard the sad news that original Kinks bassist Pete Quaife died yesterday, I've decided to pay my respects by submitting a lesser known Kinks track from 1964.

Here are some sixties rock instrumental versions of some well known Classical tunes:-
Nutrocker - B. Bumble and the Stingers Sabre Dance - Love Sculpture Saturday Night At The Duckpond - The Cougars Mozart Versus The Rest - Episode Six Yes, I know the first two tracks were big hits, but nobody’s posted to this thread for several days now, and I think if we want to prevent this excellent thread from completely sinking into oblivion then one or two rules may need to be broken. |

Funnily enough I was just thinking about this thread. I had a fun morning with a box records and thought there had to be a place for this fantastic later Gene Vincent record (1966).
The guitar shredding is courtesy of Glen Campbell! Bird Doggin' |

This is 'Garage Man' by the Gods. Blimey..........thanks to this thread !........... ![]() Back in the 60s i was pretty much a top twenty and motown kind of chap, so not many of these rare singles mean anything to me. At that time my dad used to bring home a lot of 'demo' records from work, he worked on a newspaper and the record companies sent them in looking for a review.......... Garage Man is the only one i really remember.........I haven't heard it for probably 40 years.............. ![]() Didn't know anything about the group, don't think they ever had a hit and only released a few singles, but thanks to Wiki i now know that they included in their line up over the couple of years they were around people who later went on to play with the Stones (Mick taylor), Uriah heep, King crimson, The Bee Gees, Chicken Shack, Jethro Tull.......... One of the seminal bands of the 60s !..............The Gods ! |
