Good to see another Scottish band on this thread. The Beatstalkers just a wee bit before my time but love these tracks with that mod/soul feel to them.
I see that one of the group, Eddie Campbell, later joined Tear Gas another Scottish band that I did see around 1972. Perhaps Tear Gas formed too late to be featured later in this thread? |

i trust this new fangled forum set up isnt finished... its bollocks so far...
i cant quote, theres no option, so to reply to 'justonecornetto'... 'tear gas' wont feature, the catalogue im using only has LP releases and im only posting single releases. they were in 1970 too. youd have to wait about 3 years anyway! lol. |

ok guys...
this format is unusable. im not going to mess with my pc settings just to read ds... i have no 'quote' option, no 'page 2' option (so when this thread gets pushed off page 1 ill not be able to access it) can only view the 80% of the left hand side of the screen. i will be suspending my project until this site is usable. of course it might be fixed by this afternoon, but until it is, no more posted from me. hope youll still be here IF they sort it (which hopefully will be hours instead of days) |

Last week I posted the Merseybeats' biggest hit, "I Think Of You", to the 1960's Appreciation thread.
Here are three very good minor hits by them:- The Merseybeats - It's Love That Really Counts (1963) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7L-rdRqm3k The Merseybeats - I Love You Yes I Do (1965) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz0_TkgD8-A The Merseybeats - I Stand Accused (1965) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb7iH5ZdLlA |

some improvements, but still unusable. everythings about 10% over to the right, so i cant quote, read the next page, nor page 2 on the main music bit.
hopefully things will be back to normal albeit different tomorrow. |

ive zoomed out, which means i canread everything on here, but the text is too small for comfort.
but whats the point in having a 16" screen if i can only use 14" of it? and it makes other forums unreadable. im 56, not 16, my eyes arent what they were, i set my pc so i can read text easily, if this goes against what ds are presenting then i can no longer participate. so im asking if theres an alternative site which i/we could use to continue the rare 60's thread? in the event the format isnt returned to one i can use. or doesnt anyone care? |

Vabosity's Third Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #48.
Today’s Third Anniversary Review post is yet another consisting entirely of instrumentals. The Skatalites - Guns of Navarone (1965) First submitted to the thread in October 2010. Classic ska. Elmer Bernstein - Walk On The Wild Side (1962) First submitted to the thread in December 2010. Elmer Bernstein wrote some terrific film music, most famously the themes to The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape. His theme for Walk On The Wild Side is a fantastic piece of music, but seems to have got lost in the mists of time, just like the film it was written for. Mellin and Reverberi - Robinson Crusoe Suite (1964) First submitted to the thread in December 2010. A French-German co-production of Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe was a firm favourite on children's TV in the mid-sixties. A different score was composed for the original production, but was replaced by this wonderful piece of music for the dubbed version shown in the UK. Timebox - I Wish I Could Jerk Like My Uncle Cyril (1967) First submitted to the thread in May 2011. Timebox were a fine British band who had a minor hit with a decent cover of the Four Seasons’ song, Beggin’. As much as I like that track, for me this non-charting Soul/R’n’B instrumental is significantly better. Sounds Incorporated - Taboo (1962) First submitted to the thread in December 2011. An exotic track from a terrific instrumental combo, who would later become Cilla Black’s backing band. |

Vabosity's Third Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #49.
The penultimate post of theThird Anniversary Review is yet another consisting entirely of Psychedelic tracks. The Yardbirds - Happenings Ten Years Time Ago (1966) First submitted to the thread in June 2010. Following a string of top ten hit singles this splendid Yardbirds’ track surprisingly failed to chart. Their loss is our gain, as this single’s lack of success means that it was perfectly eligible when first submitted to the thread over three years ago and is perfectly eligible to be repeated today. Moby Grape - Omaha (1968) First submitted to the thread in June 2010. Definitely time to listen, my friends. Spirit - Fresh Garbage (1968) First submitted to the thread in August 2010. A great Psych track with a bit of a Jazz feel to it. Lyme and Cybelle - Follow Me (1966) First submitted to the thread in December 2010. Some claim that this was the first ever Psychedelic track; others dispute that claim. What is beyond dispute is that this particular Psychedelic track is a mighty fine one. The Electric Prunes - The Great Banana Hoax (1967) First submitted to the thread in March 2011. I have already included the classic Electric Prunes’ track, I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night, in the Third Anniversary Review. Here’s another track by them, which is probably not considered a classic but should be. |

Vabosity's Third Anniversary Review Of The Thread - Post #50.
This is the final post of the Third Anniversary Review. It is now December, meaning that it’s actually closer to the thread’s Fourth Anniversary than to its Third Anniversary, so Post #50 seems like a good point at which to stop. The 250 great tracks that I’ve repeated in the Review are just the tip of the iceberg that is this wonderful thread, and I ask anyone with the time and the inclination to explore as much of the rest of the iceberg an you can; it’ll be well worth your while. There is no theme to the final post of the Third Anniversary Review. It just contains five tracks that I like a great deal and that I believe are a fitting way to end the Review. The Bobby Fuller Four - I Fought The Law (1966) First submitted to the thread in June 2010. The Clash version is good, but not a patch on this as far as I’m concerned. Richard Harris - Didn’t We (1968) First submitted to the thread in June 2010. The excellent B-side of the magnificent MacArthur Park. The Chiffons - Up On The Bridge (1968) First submitted to the thread in September 2010. Capablanca hasn’t posted to the thread in quite some time, which is a great pity, because when he was a regular contributor he submitted some terrific tracks, including this rare gem. Sweetwater - In A Rainbow (1968) First submitted to the thread in February 2012. Sweetwater have the rare distinction of being the first band to play at one of the most famous musical events of the decade, the 1969 Woodstock Festival. This rare distinction does not appear to have rescued them from obscurity, but they were a fine band and this is a fine track. Bobby Darin and Clyde McPhatter - Have Mercy Baby (1960) First submitted to the thread in July 2012. What better way to end the Third Anniversary Review than with the fabulous Bobby Darin and the marvellous Clyde McPhatter performing together on a vintage TV show? It doesn't get much better than this. |
