I was quite excited to listen to their albums after them being recommended to me. They also get incredibly good reviews and have a bit of a cult following..but I find them really boring.. they're like a watered down version of Interpol

I really like the new album, but there is something that's stopping me from completely falling in love with it.

They're probably a bit overrated, but I'd say they're still more than just a 'watered down' Interpol.

I beg to differ. Hadn't heard of them till High Violet and having bought and had a bit of listen really seems to be a grower.

Another case or the "they're over rated" line bring wheeled out when ever someone doesn't like or rate a musical act.

no they are really good, if they are watered down Interpol that's just because Interpol are one of the rare great bands

Well they're my favourite band so... no

I don't really think they're like Interpol either.

baritone lead vocalist, what more do you need for an easy comparison?

which means they are both exactly the same as Joy Division of course, might as well be from Altrincham as New York

ah a little bit of success and the over rated tag is trotted out, regardless of the quality and the effort and hard work to get any kind of recognition.

yeah the indie community will do that, they're still pretty good tho. Their new album has been a bit of shrinker for me.

So because you don't like them they are overrated?

That doesn't make any sense does it?

I loved Boxer and Alligator. Boxer is one of my favourite all-time albums. It's amazing.

The new one I've not gotten into as much yet. It's good but I think must require more listens since the reviews have all been very positive. So I will force myself to like it.

So, I don't agree they are overrated or a watered-down anything.

The new album is definitely worth checking out. Not sure it's as good as Boxer though. Mistaken For Strangers and Slow Show are awesome tracks - better than anything Interpol have done in my opinion.

Very middle of the road easy listening kind of group so perfect for the mainstream nowadays I guess. Little real melody or energy or invention, perfect as background music. The problem with media and fanboys hyping them is that there are many other groups (who might even appeal to a wider audience) who deserve some hype and who will never be known widely.
